The Best Photographer Ever

Wow, wow, wow! We honestly feel so lucky to have found Ross from the other side of the world in Australia for our wedding back home in Kent! From the minute we had our zoom call with him, we knew he was the photographer for us. We then had our pre-wedding shoot in London, which was incredible and really put us at ease for the wedding and got us excited. On the day, he was amazing, he really is the ninja, you do not notice him at all but he is everywhere snapping the best photos. We absolutely loved his candid style and they are some of our favourite photos. We also love that he did a blog post with photos, which we got about 5 days after the wedding, so we didn’t have to wait long for a preview before we get all of our photos. Could not recommend him more, if we could do it all over again, we would, just to have another fun day with this absolute legend! Thanks so much Ross! Jane & Ben

Couldn't have imagined more beautiful shots

Imagine waking up on your wedding day to 90% chance of heavy rain. Which it did, it definitely rained all day. Now imagine looking back on that day and loving the fact that it rained as you had a photographer that is not only imaginative, resourceful and incredibly upbeat, he also changed at night into what I can only describe as heavy duty fishing gear to take you outside and capture some of the most amazing photos. I couldn't have imagined more beautiful shots. Photos that we will hang up and cherish for many decades. I love all of the moments, the laughs and cries captured in such a candid way. Ross spent the whole day with us, from me getting ready until our family tore up the dance floor. We will always be grateful for your hard work Ross, thank you. Emily & Pete xx

Ross did an amazing job all round...

Ross did an amazing job all round. From my bridal prep right up until he left I felt totally comfortable having him photograph all my guests and me. He was well dressed and very professional, and fitted into the day perfectly. He captured all the special little moments a regular wedding photographer wouldn't which really brings back exact memories from the day. Ross went above and beyond and was way more than just a photographer for us, we cannot praise him enough.

When my husband...

When my husband and I were researching for a photographer we came across Ross's website and thought his blogs stood out from others. We did see other photographers first but it wasn't until we met with Ross and went through his work closely that we realised his quality of image and his creative work using light just stood out from anyone else. We had an engagement shoot with him and he made us so relaxed and his profession helped feel at ease, we were blown away with these shots.

Ross was so calming...

Ross was so calming and relaxing to be around and made us both feel at ease in front of the camera. He took some amazing shots and some of our favourite moment was when he took us away from the crowd to take some photos at night. He's so creative and easy going so happy we booked him.

We met Ross initially for coffee, and immediately felt relaxed, comfortable and knew very quickly we were making the right choice. From start, until today, Ross has been very professional, shown exceptional skill and talent in photography, has been an extremely likeable person to share our day with, and went above and beyond to ensure we were not only getting the best from our day's photo's, but what we wanted too.. which was very important to us. Can't recommend Ross enough... Thanks Ross!!

Ross was excellent throughout the process. His creativity & vision matched what we asked for perfectly. His eye for detail & fresh ideas have left us with the most amazing engagement & wedding photographs that not only myself & my husband have ever seen, but our guests have also all commented on them too. They are unlike any others in the best possible way. He put us at ease, was fun & professional. I have several friends who are getting married that have taken his card after seeing our photos!

One of the ways in which Ross is different to...

One of the ways in which Ross is different to other photographers was his engagement shoot. Ross asked us to choose a location which meant something to both Lee and I and we really think this helped relax us and get us used to the camera ahead of the wedding. We were so impressed with these photos that we couldn't wait to see the wedding photos! One thing that stood out for us both is that he had a great eye for the unusual shot" and these have made for some of our best photos."

FAQs
Find out a bit more from our FAQs

What is your most memorable wedding?

I can't name one, as I've photographed 300 amazing weddings. But the days full of love, emotion and laughter are the ones I enjoy the most!

Describe your style in 5 adjectives.

Editorial, natural and modern

What about your business are you most proud of?

The incredible testimonials I receive from past couples. It gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling.

What is your No.1 wedding planning tip for couples?

Book early and budget for a good photographer. It's the pictures that remain after a wedding day and is what you show off to family and friends for years to come. So book the right photographer for you, get the style and quality you want. There are many types of photographer, so do your homework and know if you're a couple who favour modern, documentary, arty or even traditional. There's someone out there for everyone.

What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?

I'm a big fan of when a couple make some of their own details. From jam jars to wild flowers. The DIY approach can really give a wedding it's own identity.

Describe your typical process with a couple.

After the booking has gone through, we meet for an engagement shoot a few months before the wedding. This helps with wedding day photography nerves and gets the couple used to me and how I work. It also means I'm not a stranger on the day and intact another friend in the congregation. On the day itself, I'm with the couple from bridal preparation until first dance, photographing all the key areas and generally enjoying the whole day with everyone. After the wedding a publish a small teaser of the images on my website within a few days. I then send the couple the full set of images 6-8 weeks after the wedding on a personal gallery for the to see vis the interweb. A week or so later the couple then receive a USB in a cool wooden box that houses their entire collection of images. If the couple have booked one of my amazing hand made leather albums, we then start the preparation and design of that.

What is the No.1 photo that you think every couple should take?

There isn't. I don't believe in planning the must have shots! Why try to envisage what the day will bring and pre plan the wedding photography? Why not let the day unfold and create natural images that best tells the story of that day. For example why try and re-create an image you have seen on Pinterest, when you could create a new and unique image that other couples will be pinning themselves for years to come.

What is the most original photo you’ve been asked to take at a wedding?

Far to many to mention. Take a look at http://www.rosshurley.com and make your own judgement. :-)

What do you recommend for a rainy day wedding?

Get out there and get a little wet! Don't try and hide away and pretend it's not raining. If it's raining on your wedding day, do not worry. I believe in telling the story of the day. So if it's wet, then let's use it to our advantage. Use the rain to get some unique and amazing images. I actually get couples booking me on my wet weather images alone.

Describe how you got into photography.

After university, I started my photography career in the music industry in 2001. I photographed many large bands from around the world from The Strokes, Blur and The White Stripes to Usher at Wembley Arena. From there I moved into press photography for newspapers like News Of The World, The Daily Mail, The Sun, The Mirror and photographed many 'celebs' from Angelina Jolie to Kate Moss. In 2013 I moved into wedding photography and brought over all my previous skills to create my own unique approach.
