What about your business are you most proud of?
That I celebrate & encourage real life imagery and honest storytelling. No awkward posing, no fake smiles. Just easy, relaxed storytelling photography which you will treasure forever.
What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?
Make sure you plan at least 10 minutes into your special day to be alone with your new spouse. It's all too easy for the day to fly by and have spoken to all the people at your wedding except for the most important person there: the person you are celebrating your love with! Make sure you stop and "be" together. Even just for a short while.
What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?
I was really touched at a wedding in November 2020 which was re-scheduled within 24 hours before Lockdown 2.0, how all the close family rallied round to make the day extra special for the couple getting married. The sister of the groom made the cake within a very short time scale (and it was amazing!), another family member made beautiful log table decorations and there were so many beautiful touches and examples of the love that they all had for the couple. It was amazing.
Describe your typical process with a couple.
I like to get to know a couple before we decide that we are right for each other. It's important that you have a good chat with each person you are considering working with for your special day, so I recommend a zoom call or an in-person chat. Once you have decided you would like to book me as your wedding photographer, then we get a date in the diary for a pre-wedding meet up, a couple of months before the big day (ideally at the wedding venue) to go over your plans in detail.
Having got to know each other well before the day, I can then work in a very hands off way during the wedding day itself, and apart from a few group shots / informal couple portraits (if you choose to have these) then you will hardly notice me. I like to feel simply like an extra guest to your special day, allowing you to relax and enjoy your celebrations with your family and friends.
What is the No. 1 photo that you think every couple should take?
I think that moment coming out of your wedding ceremony when your expressions say "we did it!" is just priceless.
What is the most original photo you’ve been asked to take at a wedding?
I usually see and capture the moments as they happen during a wedding, so it is generally very spontaneous, which makes for very real-life, emotive images which can't help but be beautiful.
What do you recommend for a rainy day wedding?
I think that whatever the weather, the event will be beautiful as you are gathered with your family and friends to celebrate your love. There will always be a story at a wedding, be it glorious sunshine, overcast or rain, and the story will always be beautiful.
Describe how you got into photography.
I have always loved photography since I was very young - I have just always been drawn to document what is happening around me and finding the story in the images. My interest in family photography grew as I had my children and wedding photography has been a natural progression from this as I absolutely love telling a story with my images and weddings provide so much opportunity for beautiful, emotive, characterful storytelling.
