I am a Storyteller, Let Me tell YOURS!!!
I am a Wedding photographer based out at my studio in Newhall Place, in the Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham. I love shooting weddings! I have always been interested in capturing personal narratives, I love learning about people's experiences and in turn telling their stories. With my wedding photography, I use creative lighting and unique perspectives to effectively capture, what is, for many of us, one of the most important days of our lives.

Raphael Lionel Photography Full Description
In short, I love shooting weddings. On such special occasions, the joy and excitement evident among the bridal party, family and friends , weave wonderful unique stories as each wedding day unfolds. Smiles, hugs, tears, meaningful embraces, laughs, kisses, love and a host of other emotions, all play their part. For this reason, I love shooting weddings. My style is natural, relaxed and unobtrusive. This helps me to document emotive images that naturally occur and speak honestly. I do however, bring my humour with me.. so prepare to laugh out loud and show some teeth! I document everything! I am a husband, a son, a brother, an uncle, a friend and a confidante. I love these roles. They.. are me. So I know love, romance, family and friendship. I also know photography. Let me be ‘your photographer’..I will tell YOUR story!

FAQs
Find out a bit more from our FAQs

What is your most memorable wedding?

The one where 'I' married 'her'! My own wedding! When it's special.. the passing of time doesn't diminish it. One of the reasons it has to be done right.

Describe your style in 5 adjectives.

Relaxed, Artistic, Creative, Honest, Emotive

What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?

Your wedding is more then one day, it is the foundation of your 'forever'. Make sure it's beautiful to the both of you!

What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?

Personal pre-recorded messages from the bride to the groom and groom to the bride, from the time of their engagement, never seen before. The excitement, hope and love was undeniable and it touched all at the reception.

Describe your typical process with a couple.

After the initial query, a face to face is arranged where I aim to learn as much about the couple as possible. I discuss their intended date and plans. Pricing packages are discussed. If, after the discussion the couple wish to proceed and the date is available, I forward some preparatory documents that I find useful to have completed and shared beforehand. These include the contract, with the wedding day 'Getting Ready' location(s), the location for the ceremony and the venue address. A retention fee is a must at this point to hold the date. Over the oncoming months, periodic communication will be made, as and when the need arrives. I like to comfort the couple with the fact that I have their date in mind and am preparing for it. The final payment for the photography must be paid 14 days before the wedding and a reminder of this is sent out. A week before the wedding day I have a final discussion with the bride and groom to run over the preparations and update on any last minute arrangements.

What is the No. 1 photo that you think every couple should take?

The Bride and Groom portraits are my highlight images for the day. Usually I find this lends to a creative shot and becomes iconic for the couple. Golden Hour, sunset images are my favourite.

What is the most original photo you’ve been asked to take at a wedding?

A couple once asked that more photos be taken of the outside of their wedding venue, than themselves! They were architects, it was a nice venue, but....!

What do you recommend for a rainy day wedding?

Umbrellas! Rain shots still make great shots! But for groups, we can plan a nice indoor location and I shoot small groups with compression on my 50-140 which is great.

Describe how you got into photography.

I always loved capturing new experiences. My about page on my website details 'My Story'. Feel free to head over to it. https://raphaellionelphotography.com/telling-stories/
