My most memorable wedding has to be the 5 day Italian job.
I was commissioned to shoot this wedding back in 2007 and was flown out especially. The ceremony was in the wonderful Sala Rossa in Florence (Google it) followed by drinks in the Savoy hotel and a meal at a lovely villa in Florence before we moved onto a stunning vineyard deep in the Tuscan countryside the next morning.
Friday night was a low key affair in the vineyard grounds with drinks and canapes out by the swimming pool with Ray Quinn from the X Factor keeping the masses entertained. Saturday was the main event with another full on wedding ceremony followed by the evenings entertainment which was a full set by Girls Aloud who also came to the after show party and mingled with the guests.
I shot so many images and luckily had taken my HD video camera so got to film all the main events and entertainment too!
Unobtrusive, creative, professional, passionate and meticulous.
My creativity. Once I know the itinerary for the day, I start to plan where I can be to get the best images and footage. I like to place small cameras in places I can't access to get some of the best imagery possible.
Once you have everything organised, simply wake up on your wedding day and enjoy it. You have hired professionals to do their job, let them do it and concentrate on getting married and having fun...after all, it is gone in a flash!
It has to be the groom planning to have Girls Aloud flown out to Italy to sing for his bride without her knowing...amazing!
I like to organise an initial meeting to see if we get along before anything else : )
Then we can start to plan the day and work out what is required from both parties. A few months before the day, it is nice to arrange an engagement shoot to get us all used to each other in that type of environment with the cameras. Another meeting a week before the wedding (hopefully at the church rehearsal) to finalise everything and then prepare for the day itself.
Once the day is done, I like to have everything ready within two weeks with a slideshow online during your honeymoon if possible. Then all images are given at high and low resolution for you to choose which you would like in your Photobook etc.
Aerial group shot showing all guests and venue from the sky!
The consummation of the marriage...I declined (I think/hope they were joking)!
Planning and preparation for just that event but keep smiling regardless, you can't plan the weather.
Picked up my father's Olympus OM-1 in around 1979 and was hooked age 12. Took it as an option at school at 14 (when I built my own darkroom in the loft), did an apprenticeship at 16, worked in a camera shop at 17 whilst at college and ran my first business as part of that business course. Never looked back...
