It's got to be my first wedding, it was in 2010. I used to be a music photographer, photographing bands at gigs and music festivals. My friend asked me to shoot his wedding, at first I said no! It was too much responsibility. I was scared! But he didn't give up. Eventually I reached out to an awesome photographer and friend Anna Hardy and she took me under her wing taking me on weddings as a second shooter so I could practice before the wedding. When the day finally arrived I wasn't nervous at all, I felt ready, I was just really excited to have a whole day where I could take photographs of people! That was the beginning and I'm so grateful to have this amazing full time job. So I'll always remember that first wedding and be super grateful to my mate for trusting me and basically team talking me into it.
Relaxed, documentary, fun, story telling, beautiful.
I love that a lot of my bookings come from referrals from past couples. It shows me that the relationship I have with couples and their overall client experience is good, that they are more than happy to go on and recommend me to their friends, family and coworkers. I love my couples.
Try not to stress to much about the small stuff. Concentrate on what makes the day about you two and the most important part getting to marry each other!
A couple couldn't have their cat at their wedding so they incorporated her into their table plan and table decorations, the photos that they had taken of her were hilarious and must have taken ages. Some of them were really clever. It made everyone laugh a lot and was a nice way for them to include their little cat baby in the day.
I like to meet or skype couples before they book and keep in contact after the booking to get a feel for what the wedding is going to be like and what they are like, it's important to me to get to know couples so that I can capture the day with them and their personalities in mind. The more I know about them, what makes, them laugh, the stuff that is important to them the more I can bring that in when capturing the story of their day.
A photo of them both together, being themselves and having a laugh.
Bring some umbrellas. Depending on your wedding venue you might need to brave a little of the rain to get some photos, although some bigger venues have plenty of spots inside for photos. Don't let it worry you. Rain keeps everyone together, people at the wedding end up mingling more and rainy weddings always end with the wildest parties. Enjoy the ride!
