Mine & Thine Photography Full Description
I am James of Mine & Thine Photography, an award winning photographer in York. I take colourful wedding photos for joyful Yorkshire folk. I have a soft spot for farm and barn weddings or a venue with some lovely heritage. I'm not your typical old stuffy wedding photographer, I keep things relaxed, and I want to make sure you have plenty of time to enjoy your day. Because if you're enjoying your day then I can do my thing and capture natural photos of you and your guests having good times you want to remember. If you're awkward, we'll work with it! I'd rather you burst out laughing from awkwardness than posed like super models. I like my photos to reflect the honesty and joy of your day and not look like I dictated to you and stole all your time. If you want to have a laugh and enjoy the party, I want to be a part of your day!

They really captured the personality of our weddin

My husband and I are so glad we chose James & Lianne as our wedding photographers. Firstly, it's great having two photographers and getting to see moments from both of your preparations. James & Lianne were really easy to work with, responding quickly to emails and were very discreet on the day - afterwards when talking about the day we said "I hope they captured this moment, that moment" etc and when we saw our pictures they had, plus more little moments we had missed ourselves! They really captured the personality of our wedding with their relaxed style of photography which is exactly what we wanted, rather than posed formal photos. Our photos were ready very quickly and we also had an album and two smaller parent albums made - these are all beautiful and very high quality. We've had so many compliments from friends & family about the photos and we're thrilled with them. We'll treasure the memories James & Lianne captured forever and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them!

They went above and beyond on the day

James and Lianne did an amazing job with our Wedding photos, we've had so many compliments on how beautiful they look! We wanted fairly natural candid photos and they captured this perfectly and also made sure that we had pictures of everyone. Not only were their photos amazing, they went above and beyond on the day to be helpful and put everyone at ease. Hiring James and Lianne was one of the best decisions we made throughout the process of planning our wedding and we would very highly recommend. Their presentation of the photos was lovely as well, I won't spoil it for any potential Brides and Grooms to be but the little touches made them even more special. Thank you both so much!

J and L are so easy going

So where to start with how totally AWESOME James and Lianne are?? We are over the moon to receive our photos as they were EXACTLY what we had in mind. We were looking for a relaxed, modern approach, with no stiff or cringeworthy posed portraits and lots of attention to detail. We found them through their website and the example galleries online are representative of their work. I can't stress enough how well their photography caught the atmosphere and joy of the day. This is a running theme throughout the comments we have received from our guest about the photos. This is in part due to their flexibility to request, for us that was getting loads of touching photos of our treasured Jack Russell. J and L knew how to use the lighting to best effect and found the best spots for some cool creative shots. Everyone knows how important the wedding photographs are but I hadn't considered until The Day how important the actual photographers are. J and L are so easy going, they slotted into the background during the ceremony/speeches etc so people didn't even notice them, giving relaxed, journalist photography, without guest feeling papped! James even managed this in my tiny two up, two down house during the bridal morning shots! We were both nervous about our solo couple shots as we though it would be embarrassing but J and L made us feel so comfortable we enjoyed it and you can see this in the photos. On the admin side J and L are very efficient and clear in their email communications and the form they asked us to fill in before hand was a useful tool to make the most of the days photography. The final presentation of our USB stick was so cute and carefully thought out. All absolutely fantastic.

FAQs
Find out a bit more from our FAQs

What is your most memorable wedding?

Any wedding that's done with honesty and full of joy for whatever the couple wanted to do has always shone as being up there with my most memorable weddings. Where it's a big party, not about being centre stage, family and friends, good food.

Describe your style in 5 adjectives.

Relaxed, un-obtrusive, documentary, silly, unserious.

What about your business are you most proud of?

I've shot over 350 weddings since I started in 2010 and that number blows my mind. I love that my job is capturing other people in love.

What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?

Make it your own. Ignore the outside influences and do it your way.

What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?

Whenever a groom cries.

Describe your typical process with a couple.

I like to chat about your day first either over coffee or over Zoom. On the day, I like to blend in with your guests and keep everything natural. I'm covert which allows me to capture people just enjoying themselves at your wedding. When it comes to group photos, I keep them quick and simple and it's the only time you'll see me get a bit more bossy. It's amazing how difficult it is to get a bunch of adults all looking in the same direction at the same time! And I won't drag you away from the party for ages either, I like you to get back and enjoy yourselves. After your wedding, I like to get your photos back in your hand within 28 days.

What is the No. 1 photo that you think every couple should take?

Just a single natural moment of you two together. These are always the ones our couples value the most over anything posed.

What do you recommend for a rainy day wedding?

Either embrace it, or get snuggled up under cover. It either leads to fun photos of you acting like kids or intimate photos of cuddles.

Describe how you got into photography.

I studied photography for my undergraduate degree. Then I did an MA in Visual Arts, also with a photographic focus. And I'm currently doing a PhD in History of Art. So it's safe to say I like photography! I shot my first wedding when doing my undergraduate in Photography in Leeds. Since then, I just went straight into the industry with gusto and never looked back!
