If you’re planning a wedding and want photos that truly capture the spirit of your day, Michael Newington Gray Photography is here to help. Based in the beautiful seaside town of Whitstable, Kent, Michael brings a unique blend of fashion photography experience and artistic vision to wedding photography. His style is modern, creative, and full of life—focusing on fun, natural moments rather than stiff poses.
Since 2015, Michael has been professionally photographing weddings, building on over 15 years of experience behind the camera. His work has caught the eye of top publications like Vogue, Tatler, and Glamour. In fact, Tatler named him one of their five favourite wedding photographers in the UK in 2017—a true mark of his expertise and creativity.
Michael’s approach is all about storytelling. He focuses on the genuine emotions and spontaneous moments that make your wedding unique—from the excitement of getting ready to the laughter during speeches and the energy of the dance floor. By blending in naturally with your guests, he captures the joy and love of your celebration without interrupting it.
Many couples say they barely noticed Michael was there, which means they could fully enjoy their day. This documentary style means less time spent on formal group shots and more time soaking in every special moment. The result? A beautiful collection of natural, flattering images that reflect the true atmosphere of your wedding.
While Michael is based in Whitstable, Kent, he has photographed weddings across the UK—including London, Devon, Hampshire, and Sussex—and even in beautiful European locations like Florence, Italy. No matter where your wedding is, Michael is happy to travel worldwide to capture your big day perfectly.
There are so many! I would have to say that a particular highlight was photographing in a castle just outside Florence in Italy last summer. Tuscan weather, good times and an opera singer belting out Nessun Dorma to a wild crowd - what a day!
Modern, candid, relaxed, creative & friendly
How I've grown in the past few years! It was nerve wracking going full time freelance, but good reviews and recommendations have allowed me to build well on what I started.
Plan the day how you want it, and relax! Everything will come together on the day, even if there are slight hiccups, getting married is as much fun as they say it is (I did it in 2015!).
There are so many! However I love little handmade touches - personal items relating to the couple.
Once you've enquired, we arrange a time to meet up and have a drink and get to know each other a bit better (or we can do this via Skype if geography defeats us). It's good to get to know each other a little bit. If you're happy, you sign a contract a few days later, and pay a deposit and we're booked! Then, I can still help you with other aspects of your wedding, always an email or phone call away. I know a lot of awesome suppliers, so always happy to make recommendations and share knowledge. Around a month before the wedding I'll be in touch with a short form asking for some info to make the day go as smoothly as possible. Then I turn up to take amazing pictures of you looking amazing!
It could change per couple, but a handful of really classic beautiful couple snaps looking amazing is a great place to start...
Relax! Indoors or out, you're surrounded by your favourite people and I can photograph them anywhere.
A lifelong love of music got me into it as a teenager, which led to a photography degree. From there I ended up working in publishing/ journalism, mainly as a picture editor at Conde Nast for over 8 years (working on Vogue, GQ, Tatler, House & Garden, etc, etc). I shot so many events for my job (and still do on a freelance basis now) that eventually a friend asked me to shoot his wedding, then another, then another... I enjoyed it so much I turned it into a business and quit the day job.
