Hi, my name’s Mike, documentary wedding photographer and lover of the outdoors and random adventures. When I’m not taking photos or working on my wedding photography you can find me surfing or chilling out by a campfire enjoying a beer. If you’re an adventurous couple that doesn’t take life too seriously I’d love to hear from you.
I love documentary wedding photography because you get to capture weddings for what they are… emotional, funny and and unexpected! I love making sure all those details you’ve put so much thought into are captured and that all the laughter and tears are remembered.

What is your most memorable wedding?
This is a tough one! There are so many unique little things that couples do to dress up a venue and there's also been some really touching speeches! But I would probably say my friends Robyn and Rowena's wedding - they had a marquee and a super chilled out day on her parents small farm and they had some pretty hilarious speeches. Those types of DIY weddings, with hay bales and free flowing food and drink are the best!

What about your business are you most proud of?
I'm quite proud that I took the plunge to go self-employed. Its been really nerve racking but definitely worth it and having a featured wedding in Your South Wales Wedding magazine. It feels like a little benchmark has been achieved!
What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?
Take your time and think about whats really important to you. It's too easy to get carried away planning, especially with everyone around you saying what you should and shouldn't do or have. Have a list of your priorities (like a business plan!), your budget etc and use that as your guide and dont forget to enjoy it!
What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?
Defnitely the groom who brewed and bottled hundreds of pints of different homemade beer. It was a bit more than homemade to be fair, this was a big operation he'd spent months on in a garage! He even built a mobile bar with 4 or 5 kegs attached! I don't drink alcohol at weddings but on his insitance I did have a few samples and it rivalled so many. I think he may have even started to offer it to other couples getting married!
Describe your typical process with a couple.
As I'm all about keeping it relaxed and natural, there's not a lot that couples need to do! However, I do like to take my couples off for 20mins to grab some nice portraits. I will do my utmost to make it an enjoyable process! We'll normally go for a walk around the venues grounds, look for some cool backdrops and see how it goes!
What is the No. 1 photo that you think every couple should take?
I don't think there's any one photo that you should have. Documentary or journalistic style photography needs to be looked at like a story, so it will have lots of details, photos of the venue, the people etc. As much as other photographers refuse to take, or say group photos are dying (because they can be difficult and time consuming!) I think they're a somewhat important historical record of the day. I think a few nice group photos, not a million variations, of the closest family members is something that will be looked on by your children and grandkids. If group photos are good enough for the Royal Family - I think they're good enough for us!
What is the most original photo you’ve been asked to take at a wedding?
Tough question! I think due to my style being focussed more on the documentary side, couples are happy for me to do my thing and capture the day as it happens! But I'm always open to ideas!
What do you recommend for a rainy day wedding?
A positive attitude, wellies and umbrellas! I personally quite like a wet wedding, I've got some amazing shots and the atmosphere tends to be quite lively. It could be all the drinks people have had! An added bonus of a bit of rain is that it stops people spreading out and disappearing!
Describe how you got into photography.
For as long as I can remember I've always had a camera with me. But back at the tender age of 14 for GCSE Art was probably where it really began. I always had to be different and decided that photography was a great medium to use for my final art piece as no one had ever done it in my school. From their it developed into a mild obession where I read every book and magazine and took pictures of everything! Fast forward, with some time spent travelling and working in London I was asked if I could shoot some events and bits for a magazine. From their it developed into a mix of shooting corporate events, but still working a 9-5... every year I ended up doing a bit more and now I'm here!
