What is your most memorable wedding?
I love a home made wedding! One that has loads of personal touches and one that it all about the connection between family and friends. It’s these connections and interactions and personal details that I love to capture on camera. On of my favourite weddings was at a gorgeous quaint little church in the Lake District followed by a marquee reception down the road at the family home. It was just such a stunning location and a fantastic crowd of friendly and fun people who adored each other and were a joy to photograph.
Describe your style in 5 adjectives.
Natural, colourful, expressive, emotive, fun
What about your business are you most proud of?
I pride myself on offering a very high level of customer service. I also provide very high quality products, from extremely careful editing of each and every image, to stunning, bespoke hand crafted albums. My goal is always to provide my clients with a set of images that they truly love
What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?
Book your photographer early and find one that is competent with flash photography. Knowledge of how to use additional lighting such as flash is essential for working in dark or bad weather conditions and also for creative night time portraits.
Describe your typical process with a couple.
Customer service is the highest priority for me and I am available to talk with my clients at any point from the first enquiry right through to receiving the images or completing an album design. I typically have the first meeting at my studio in Pudsey or by phone or video chat. I think it is important to have a chat with couples before they book so they really get a chance to tell me about their plans and hear about my style of photography.
It is also my goal to make sure my couples are completely comfortable being photographed. I make a point of explaining my natural, no posing, documentary-style approach to photographing each part of their day. I also offer pre wedding shoots if couples want to get rid of any camera shyness before the big day.
My booking process is very simple and all done online. Once a couple have booked I send them further information about the service. If they have booked a pre wedding shoot we will do this at any point up to 2 months prior to the wedding. About 1-2 months before the wedding I will also talk to the couple in detail about their schedule and plan the timings on the day for any group and couple photos.
What is the most original photo you’ve been asked to take at a wedding?
I don’t usually get asked to take specific photos ( apart from a few family group shots) My clients understand that I’m a documentary style photographer and I’m capturing natural candid photos throughout the day. I’m always on the look out for interesting or emotional moments and interactions. These moments are where you find the most original photographs. After all, every natural moment is unique! Of course I will always cover all the big moments throughout the day and a range of stunning artistic couple portraits
What do you recommend for a rainy day wedding?
Dark and rainy day photography can really be enhanced with a little additional lighting so book a photographer who understands how to work with flash photography. I would also recommend trying not to be disappointed if you don't get the bright sunny day you wanted. You are still going to have an amazing time with your family and friends. Don't worry about the photography. I've caught some of my favourite images on rainy days which can give a lot of atmosphere to the photographs.
