Kim Shaw Photography Full Description

Timeless Wedding Photography with a Calm, Personal Approach

Planning your wedding comes with enough to think about. Choosing your photographer should feel straightforward and reassuring.

I’m Kim, and I have been photographing weddings for over 20 years across Shropshire, Staffordshire and Cheshire. During that time, I have learned that the best photographs come when you feel comfortable, not when you feel like you are performing.

Most couples tell me it felt like having someone there who quietly kept everything on track while they got on with enjoying their day, and that is exactly how I want it to feel for you too.

A Relaxed, Elegant Style

My style is timeless, relaxed and natural, with a gentle, guided approach when needed.

I will help you feel at ease in front of the camera, especially during your portraits and group photographs, so nothing feels awkward or overly posed. The rest of the day is about capturing what is really happening as it unfolds, from the big moments to the quieter ones you may not even realise are happening.

The result is a collection of images that feel genuine, look elegant, and will still feel just as meaningful in years to come.

Coverage Designed Around Your Day

Every wedding is different, and I adapt my approach to suit you.

Whether you are planning a smaller, more intimate celebration or a full day with all your family and friends, I will work with you to make sure everything feels calm, organised and unhurried.

I will guide you where needed, keep things flowing when it helps, and step in to organise group photographs efficiently so you can get back to enjoying your day.

What You Can Expect

• Over 20 years of wedding experience and a calm, reassuring presence

• Gentle guidance so you never feel unsure or uncomfortable

• Natural, elegant photographs that reflect how your day truly felt

• Careful attention to both the big moments and the smaller, meaningful ones

• A relaxed approach that allows you to enjoy your day without feeling rushed

Highly Recommended

A special thank you to Kim and Martin for being amazing photographers for our wedding at Slaters Country Inn on the 7th September. We could not be happier with all the beautiful memories that were captured. Kim went above and beyond for us and ensured that we got some extra special outstanding shots. We were very impressed with her professional friendly manner and her time and people management skills to get everybody into position for the group shots. It has been a pleasure to have Kim capture our wedding and we would recommend her services to everybody 😄

I couldn’t recommend anyone better than Kim!

We booked Kim because we had a chat to her at a wedding fair and we instantly felt 100% comfortable with her which was the number one thing we were looking for in a photographer (as the idea of all eyes on us was daunting)! The whole process with Kim was so easy, we showed her what styles of photographs we liked and what group photos we wanted. We loved her photography style because she can do the traditional style photographs with family but then also the fun ones too. When the day of the wedding came I don’t know what we would of done without her! She kept us to the schedule so we didn’t miss out on anything (time flys!!) She also helped me into my dress and really helped not only me to be calm but everyone who was with me too. During the day Kim made it effortless, everything we asked for, we got. When our photographs were ready to view Kim sent us the link se we could see them and we absolutely loved them! They the perfect mix of timeless traditional and fun, modern style. The album we chose is really high quality and shows the pictures perfectly. If you want someone who will not only take amazing photos but also look after you and add that personal touch then I couldn’t recommend anyone better than Kim!

'we were treated with respect and professionalism'

After months of searching we decided upon Kim Shaw as our wedding photographer and on the day we could not have been happier with our decision. Kim was there to capture our day from the very beginning; including bridal preparations and never faltering with her microscopic attention to detail. An added surprise on the day came in the form of Martin; a wonderful second photographer who attended the house my husband was getting ready at. These photos are priceless as they create a fluent story through our day and gave us each an insight into the hours leading up to the wedding. Throughout our day Kim played many different roles; she seamlessly organised people into positions for photos, played master of ceremonies when required and continuously perfected dresses, suits and hair for all of the bridal party and guests to ensure they looked their best throughout the wedding. She continuously went above and beyond what was expected of her as a photographer, never being afraid of getting down in the mud or up high for the perfect photograph. During the course of our experience with Kim we were treated with respect and professionalism, ensuring that all our questions were dealt with efficiently and never made to feel like anything was a bother. Having a catalogue of images to view which included many different styles of photography however some of our favourites have to be our candid images, her ability to capture raw emotion is nothing less than artistic. We continue to have wonderful compliments about our photos and we are so proud to show them off. By the end of our journey it no longer felt like we were treated as customers but rather as friends.

All of the images are perfect

We made the perfect choice having Kim Shaw Photography for our wedding day. After our first meeting we were 100% sure that we wanted Kim to be a part of our day. We felt comfortable, relaxed and fell in love with the sample albums that she showed us. All of the images are perfect and our photo album is stunning, Kim helped to choose the final images as we just couldn’t decide, and we couldn’t be happier. Our family and friends gave so many compliments, and some said it’s the best wedding album they have ever seen. Alex & I would like to say a huge thank you for all the hard work and effort on the day to get us so many beautiful pictures, despite the rain. You really did go above and beyond to get us the photos we wanted, as well as making us, and our guests feel comfortable. The whole day was enjoyable and fun. We loved every minute. We will be sure to recommend to anyone looking for a photographer and we will be back for photos in the future. Love from Amy & Alex xx

the pictures captured every part ofour magical day

Kim Shaw is an amazing photographer! She shot our wedding back in March and she was amazing!! Nothing was too much trouble and I felt at ease all day with her taking our photographs! When we went to pick up our album we re-lived the day all over again as the pictures captured every part of our magical day. It was so hard to pick the album pictures as they were all so good. This lady is amazing and I would highly recommend her to everyone.

FAQs
Find out a bit more from our FAQs

What is your most memorable wedding?

Every wedding has its own memorable moments, which is what makes them all so special.

One that has always stayed with me though was a wedding at the Churnet Valley Railway. The couple were married in the station office, and afterwards everyone boarded a steam train where their meal was served as it travelled through the Staffordshire countryside.

In the evening, the reception was held in a marquee at Consall Station, with guests arriving by steam train, which made it feel even more unique.

It was such a lovely, different kind of day and one I will always remember.

Describe your style in 5 adjectives.

Timeless · Relaxed · Elegant · Natural · Guided

Gently guided when needed, with a relaxed and natural approach that creates timeless, elegant photographs.

What about your business are you most proud of?

The fact that my clients, along with their family and friends, genuinely love what I do and go on to recommend me to others.

So much of my work comes from word of mouth, which means a lot to me. It tells me that not only have I created photographs they love, but that I have also made people feel comfortable and looked after on the day.

That trust, and those recommendations, are what I am most proud of.

What is your No.1 wedding planning tip for couples?

Plan your day around how you want it to feel, not just how it looks.

It is very easy to get caught up in details and timings, but weddings rarely run exactly to schedule. A few minutes here and there, a slightly late ceremony, or speeches running longer than expected all add up.

Building a little breathing space into your timeline makes a huge difference. It allows the day to flow more naturally and gives you time to enjoy the people around you rather than feeling rushed.

When the day feels calm and unhurried, everything else falls into place, including the photographs.

What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?

One that has always stayed with me was a couple who used green apples as both their place names and wedding favours.

Each apple had a small leaf-shaped card attached to the stalk with the guest’s name on it. It looked beautiful on the tables, but it also had a lovely meaning behind it. Their colour scheme was shades of green, and as they were both teachers, it was a subtle nod to the idea of “an apple for the teacher.”

It was simple, thoughtful, and completely personal to them, which is often what makes something stand out.

Describe your typical process with a couple.

I like to keep everything simple and easy from the very beginning.

Once you get in touch we arrange a relaxed chat either in person or via video so you can tell me your plans and what matters most to you. It also gives you a chance to see if I feel like the right fit for your day.

If you decide to book I will send over a booking form and T&C's. Once these are signed and your booking fee is paid the date is secure. From that point on I am always here if you need me.

Around 4-6 weeks before your wedding I will send you a questionnaire so I have all the key details. We will have another chat to go through everything to ensure your wedding day feels calm and well planned.

On the day I will guide you where needed, especially during group photographs and portraits, while capturing the rest naturally.

Afterwards your images are carefully edited and shared in a private online gallery. You receive your full set of images and if you have an album you can select your favourites for the design.

What is the No.1 photo that you think every couple should take?

If you are lucky enough to have your grandparents with you, make sure you have a photograph with them.

The same goes for your parents. I always recommend having a photo with each of them individually, as well as together.

These are the photographs that often become the most treasured over time. They may not feel like the most important in the moment, but they are the ones that tend to mean the most in the years that follow.

Weddings bring everyone together in a way that does not happen very often, when everyone is dressed up, looking their best, and gathered for a genuinely happy occasion.

Having those photographs to look back on really does matter more than you might realise at the time.

What is the most original photo you’ve been asked to take at a wedding?

There have been a few over the years… some I probably shouldn’t repeat!

Let’s just say weddings with men in kilts can lead to some very memorable (and slightly cheeky) requests.

That said, I am always guided by what couples are comfortable with. Whether it is something fun and light hearted or something more meaningful, I am always happy to go along with it and capture it in a way that still feels like part of your day.

What do you recommend for a rainy day wedding?

You never really know what the weather is going to do until the morning of your wedding, so the first thing I always say is… try not to worry.

If it does rain, it really is not a problem. With the right approach, you will still have beautiful photographs. In many cases, rain can actually add something special and a little different to your day.

I will always have a simple plan in place, whether that means using indoor spaces at your venue or stepping outside for a few moments if the rain eases.

A couple of umbrellas, a sense of humour, and just going with it can make for some of the most memorable images of the day.

Most importantly, focus on enjoying your wedding. I will take care of the rest.

Describe how you got into photography.

My love of actual photographs goes back a very long way.

Some of my most treasured possessions are family photographs, including my parents’ wedding album from 1948. It is a simple collection of just a handful of images, but it has been looked at, shared, and cherished for generations. That has always stayed with me.

Becoming a wedding photographer happened by a very happy accident. After going to college to properly learn photography, I was asked to photograph a friend’s wedding. I said yes, and quickly realised I had found something I truly loved and was pretty good at.

Over 20 years later, I still feel exactly the same. It is a privilege to be trusted with something so important, and to create photographs that will be just as meaningful in years to come.

I genuinely believe it is one of the best jobs in the world, and I still love it just as much today.
