Describe your typical process with a couple.
We chat over email initially, then we always have a face-to-face coffee to chat further. We then send over our online booking form & terms. We take a deposit to secure your day. Once you're booked in we chat leading up to the day, we visit the venues to gather ideas and advice on group photos and timings. During the day we keep watch of timings and me and Wayne work together to capture the day. We then edit the album and aim to have your photos ready in 4 weeks. We send you a beautiful oak box with 50 highlight photos to enjoy straight away!
What is the No. 1 photo that you think every couple should take?
A portrait session together is a must! And also one of the groom sipping a beer in the lead up haha!
What is the most original photo you’ve been asked to take at a wedding?
I'm a big fan of abstraction or getting photos of guests which as a little daring. My favourite is of a guest's face being abstracted by a wine glass during a speech and Wayne's favourite is of a guest dressed in a beautiful Nigerian outfit with her phone with an indecipherable expression.
What do you recommend for a rainy day wedding?
Wellies & a brolly! and also think about your venue, do you love the rooms available to have a portrait session, is it a naturally bright venue?
Describe how you got into photography.
I first seriously picked up a camera during my design degree and soon became curious so asked a friend if I could help out at a wedding she was shooting. I absolutely loved it!! Later I started assisting several photojournalists - some of the best based in London. I also spent a year assisting a pro wedding photographer. Then in 2011 I was inspired to start Katy & Co. and go it alone with a few friends assisting. The business later grew to become a collaboration between myself and my husband Wayne.
