This personal connection drives his dedication to documenting authentic emotions at every wedding he photographs. When you choose Horizon Visuals, you’re choosing a photographer committed to creating images that truly reflect your love and the joyful memories you’ll cherish forever.
Every wedding is memorable but there was one I shot recently on the Island of Cumbrae which was really cool. We spent well over an hour driving around the island, visiting lots of different locations, and taking tons of epic photos!
Natural, Fun, Relaxed, Candid, Emotional
I'm proud of the fact that I started the business myself from nothing and have slowly built it up over the past couple of years.
Build in extra time for all the different parts of your day during the planning phase. Most weddings don't run on time so build in a few 30 minute 'buffers' here and there to avoid getting stressed out if things don't go according to plan.
Having a quiz or a crossword where all the questions relate to the couple. It's a great way of keeping guests entertained during the meal and/or the reception.
All I need is about 20 minutes with you both to capture some great images. I might throw a few basic prompts your way but I'll more than likely ask you guys to hold hands, go for a walk and just spend some time together. I'll try to keep it fun and relaxed and I promise I'll never ask you to do anything you don't feel comfortable with.
If there's some nice light later in the evening then I may come and grab you for a quick sunset session but apart from that, I want to leave you to enjoy spending time with your guests.
I'm not a fan of cheesy, posed and awkward-looking photos. I prefer to shoot in a more relaxed way with minimal posing, using natural light as much as possible. This style of photography, I believe, creates better images and is great for anyone who may be nervous in front of the camera. I would say that my photography is 90% candid with the remaining 10% reserved for family and bridal party photos and the couple's shoot.
The one photo that parents and family members want on their walls is the classic couple standing side by side, one arm around your partner's waist, looking at the camera.
A photo dash - I highly recommend it! It's a quick and fun way to make sure you get a photo with everyone at your wedding.
I always have some clear umbrellas with me or we can find a nice location inside the venue for photographs. I always have backup locations in mind in case the weather isn't great.
I got my first "proper" camera a few years ago and started taking photos of my two boys and my dog, but quickly realised that trying to get them to stand still and pose for a picture was a waste of time. I found that simply letting them interact with each other naturally resulted in much better photographs. I developed a knack for catching split-second emotions with my camera (a look, a smile, or a laugh) and this approach led me to photographing weddings.
I prefer to let my couples interact with each other naturally, whilst being photographed. No cheesy posing, no hassle, no stress! I want you to relax, have fun and actually enjoy your wedding day.
