What about your business are you most proud of?
When a couple sees their full set of images and they are blown away. I love hearing how it brought everything back to life, that I captured their favourite people exactly how they are in real life, showed them parts of the day they didn't even know about, made them ugly cry and how much they treasure those memories I have captured. Every time I capture a wedding, I know I am trusted to tell a story for generations to come. Knowing I have brought joy through my images, makes me proud of what I do and love it even more.
What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?
Remember it is your day. You will be inundated with advice, whether you asked for it or not. It's great to listen to ideas and words of wisdom, but ultimately it is your wedding day and it is your story to create.
What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?
I am a big fan of writing your vows, it doesn't get more personal than that. I have seen quite a few couples put into words their love and promises to each other and it is guaranteed to bring out those happy tears.
What is the No. 1 photo that you think every couple should take?
Spectacular couple portraits would be my number one recommendation. Even if you think you are about as photogenic as a potato, or you're super shy and hate the idea of being centre of attention, don't let this get in the way of getting some great portraits of you both. Even if the real reason you love the idea of documentary photos is because it means you can avoid getting couple portraits done, don't skip out on having a few taken. The photographer's job is to put you at ease, capture your best angle and create a lasting memory of you both on your wedding day. Even if you only take 10 minutes for some portraits, that short time away from your guests, allows you a little bit of time to let it sink in, you are married, you did it... and you will walk away with an amazing portrait of you both in that moment. You rarely will regret the things you did in life more than than things you didn't.
What do you recommend for a rainy day wedding?
Embrace it. The rain might seem like it will ruin the photographs, but for those that it embrace it, it can be magical. Back lit raindrops will look like tiny stars came out especially for you and those dramatic skies will create a spectacular backdrop for your portraits. Ultimately there is a reason that so many movies feature a long kiss in the rain. It is the epitome of romance.
