Planning your wedding in Northumberland? Ed Charlton Photography specializes in capturing the real, heartfelt moments of your big day with a natural, documentary style. With over eight years of experience and more than 220 weddings photographed, Ed is passionate about telling your unique love story through authentic images. His unobtrusive approach helps you and your guests feel relaxed, so your wedding day flows naturally and joyfully.
I focus on a documentary style that captures your wedding as it truly happens—no awkward poses or forced smiles. Many couples tell me they’re “not really photo people,” and I get it. My goal is to help you forget the camera and enjoy every moment with your loved ones. While I prioritize candid shots, I’m always happy to include any special photos you want.
Being your photographer means more than just taking pictures—I’m here to support you and make sure your day feels just right. To build a comfortable connection, every package includes a free pre-wedding consultation. This way, I become a friendly, familiar face for you and your guests, helping your day run smoothly and stress-free.
I don’t think I have a ‘most memorable wedding’ they’ve all been incredible & no wedding is the same! It wouldn’t be fair to pick a favourite.
Natural, unobtrusive, candid, documentary & artistic.
Take your time. Wedding planning is already stressful as standard - don’t rush & add to the stress! Pick suppliers that you properly gel with. If that’s not me, no hard feelings!
Matching shoes with their step children. Bride had red wellies on, so did the grooms son. Brides daughter had white converse on, so did the groom.
Explain my style, see if they like my vibe, & potentially meet up (either in person or on zoom/FaceTime) if they’re happy to do so. Pre/wedding shoot to put them at ease & let them get to know me, meaning I rock up to the big day (hopefully) as a friend, not a stranger.
At least ONE of just them, relaxing, laughing, no one else around, just having 5 minutes away from the madness & excitement. It all passes by so quickly, it’s a treasure to remember that little bit of ‘you time’.

Umbrellas. 😂
Even at a young age, I have always had a keen eye for detail. I lost count of how many Pentax cameras my Dad had to replace because I kept 'borrowing' them and wearing them out..
I chose to persue a career in photography after being on the fence about becoming a lawyer or chasing my dream job. Either I take a well paid job (that brings with it a LOT of stress and not much enjoyment), or do what I love (and hope people think I'm good enough at it to be paid for doing so!).
I decided to do what I love.
As a result, I emerged from Newcastle University with a maxed out student overdraft, plenty of debt, and a BA(Hons) Degree in Photography & Digital Media.
