Nestled in the charming town of Keswick, Cumbria, Derwent Photography is dedicated to creating timeless, heartfelt images that tell your unique wedding story. Photographer Steve Yates focuses on capturing real emotions and natural moments, so you can relax and fully enjoy every special second of your big day.
Steve’s approach blends contemporary and documentary photography to authentically capture your wedding’s story. He works unobtrusively, quietly documenting the laughter, tears, and fleeting moments that make your celebration one-of-a-kind. While most of the day is captured candidly, there’s also time set aside for relaxed, beautiful portraits of you as a couple—framed by the stunning Lake District scenery.
With more than 700 weddings under his belt, Steve is a qualified master wedding photographer who brings calm professionalism and deep experience to your day. From your first consultation to the delivery of your final images, he ensures a smooth, enjoyable process. Couples consistently praise the natural feel of his photos and how they help relive the joy and emotion of their wedding day.
It was a very small wedding with 13 people at Wasdale Head at the end of winter. That couple had met there and got engaged there so it was a really significant place for them, and they were so lovely!
Natural, relaxed, storytelling, creative & dramatic
The multitude of happy clients that I work for, they make it all worthwhile.
Do all your planning in advance then on the day FORGET about it and let other people do the worrying. It's your special day, make sure you sit back, relax and enjoy yoursefl!
I had a groom who suprised his wife during the speeches with a 4 1/2 foot high piece of granite upon which he had carved a poem for her. It took 50 hours to make it!!!
They book. They get married. I shoot to tell the story.
There isn't one particular photo that I'd recommend, I think the photos always look their best when bound together in a book. That way you can almost read the excitement, joy and emotion of the day.
I feel that if the shot has been planned and I've been asked to do it then it's not original at all!
Just relax and enjoy it, it's your day so why let a pesky little thing like weather get you down?
I started shooting for climbing magazines when I left school and it kind of snowballed from there!
