What is your most memorable wedding?
My most memorable wedding was in Cape Town. The bride and groom flew me there to shoot their wedding, and it was the most prestigious venue I've ever seen, let alone worked at. The couple were friendly, down-to-earth, approachable, and kind. The families were fantastic, and the day went off perfectly.
Describe your style in 5 adjectives.
Modern, creative, natural, contemporary, unobtrusive.
What about your business are you most proud of?
My long experience. I've shot well over 300 weddings across cultures in multiple countries and cities.
What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?
Have fun and take it all in because it'll be over quickly. Also, try not to sweat the small stuff too much.
What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?
I once shot an elopement on top of a breathtaking mountain range. We had to get there by helicopter.
Describe your typical process with a couple.
Before the booking is finalised, I answer any questions the couple have. Once the booking is completed, I'll be available to help in any way possible leading up to the wedding, often regarding timings and arrangements. We'll have a final online meeting a week or two before the day to finalise everything. After the wedding, I do all the editing and contact the couple to let them know their photos are ready. I generally send a link for the couple to download them. If they want an album, I do the layout and arrange the printing.
What is the No. 1 photo that you think every couple should take?
A waist-up, head-and-shoulders photo of the bride and groom smiling directly into the camera sounds old-fashioned, but that is the photo the moms, grandparents, and families will want for their mantle pieces.
What is the most original photo you’ve been asked to take at a wedding?
I'm usually the one who asks the couple for original photos. I've had couples in small boats on dams, on edges of balconies, up trees, and many other crazy places. Some couples are really into it, and others prefer a more conservative or natural approach. I'm happy to do either.
What do you recommend for a rainy day wedding?
Always have umbrellas ready. If it's not coming down too severely, let's shoot!
Describe how you got into photography.
I began doing commercial photography in 2006 while working as a graphic designer. In 2008, I started shooting corporate events and, in 2011, I started doing weddings and families.
