What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?
When booking your wedding photographer, don’t just look at their portfolio—make sure they have the right equipment, the skills to use it, and that it’s properly insured. Your wedding day is a once-in-a-lifetime event, and the last thing you want is for your memories to be compromised because of unreliable gear or inexperience.
A professional photographer should have top-quality cameras, backup equipment (because technology can fail), and the expertise to handle any lighting situation—from bright outdoor ceremonies to dimly lit reception venues. More importantly, their gear shouldn’t be borrowed or rented last minute—a true professional invests in their craft and is always prepared.
At Cherished Images Wedding Photography, I ensure every shot is captured with high-end, reliable equipment, and I always carry backups—because your wedding memories deserve nothing less than perfection.
What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?
One of my favourite personal touches I’ve seen at a wedding was when a couple wrote handwritten letters to each guest, placed at their seats. Instead of generic favours, they took the time to write a heartfelt note to each person, sharing a memory, a thank-you, or a special message.
When guests arrived at their tables and opened their letters, you could see the genuine emotion—smiles, tears, and so much love filling the room. It was such a beautiful and meaningful way to make everyone feel truly appreciated and part of the couple’s journey.
As a photographer, capturing those candid moments—the teary eyes, the laughter, the heartfelt embraces—was pure magic. It’s personal touches like these that make a wedding truly unforgettable.
What special touches are you planning for your big day? Let’s capture them together!
Describe your typical process with a couple.
Every wedding is unique, and so is every couple. That’s why I take the time to truly get to know you both before your big day. My process isn’t just about photography—it’s about understanding your story, your personalities, and what will mean the most to you and your families when you look back on your wedding memories.
We start with a relaxed chat where we talk through your day in detail—the timings, the key moments, and any special touches you have planned. But I don’t believe in a rigid schedule that adds stress! Instead, we plan a forgiving and flexible timeline so you can enjoy the day without feeling rushed, while still capturing everything beautifully.
Beyond the schedule, I want to understand you as a couple—your shared tastes, your style, and the little things that truly matter. Whether it’s a special moment with grandparents, a private first look, or a lively dancefloor shot that sums up your celebration, I make sure we focus on what’s most important to you.
By the time your wedding day arrives, you’ll feel completely at ease, knowing I’m there to capture everything in a way that feels natural, relaxed, and truly “you.”
What is the No. 1 photo that you think every couple should take?
If I had to choose just one, it would be the "Just Married" Moment—that first, unfiltered, joy-filled moment right after the ceremony when you realise, “We did it!”
Whether it’s a confetti exit, a quiet embrace, or a euphoric cheer with your guests in the background, this shot captures pure happiness, love, and excitement like no other. It’s unscripted, it’s emotional, and it’s the moment that marks the beginning of your new journey together.
Every couple deserves to have that timeless, authentic memory to look back on for years to come. Let’s make sure yours is perfect!
What is the most original photo you’ve been asked to take at a wedding?
One of the most unforgettable and original shots I’ve been asked to capture was a groomsmen "ring inspection" photo. The groom had just put on his wedding ring for the first time, and his groomsmen gathered around, comically “inspecting” it with exaggerated expressions—some looking impressed, others pretending to be skeptical, and one even pulling out a magnifying glass!
It was such a fun, lighthearted moment that perfectly reflected the groom’s personality and the bond he shared with his best friends. The laughter that followed was completely authentic, and the photo turned out to be one of the couple’s favourites from the day.
I love when couples bring their own personalities into their photos—whether it's a creative pose, a fun theme, or something totally unexpected. Your wedding photos should be uniquely you, and I’m always excited to capture those one-of-a-kind moments!
What do you recommend for a rainy day wedding?
Rain on your wedding day isn’t just good luck—it’s an opportunity for some truly magical and romantic photos! The key is to embrace the weather and be prepared.
Here’s what I recommend:
Bring Clear Umbrellas – They look elegant in photos and let in plenty of natural light, creating dreamy, intimate shots. Plus, they keep you dry without blocking the view!
Choose a Venue with Beautiful Indoor Spaces – If you suspect rain, having a backup indoor location for photos ensures you still get stunning images.
Trust Your Photographer – I know how to use the rain to our advantage! Reflections, soft lighting, and cozy, candid moments under an umbrella can make for some of the most romantic photos of the day.
Have Fun with It! – Some of the best wedding memories come from unexpected moments. Dancing in the rain, a quick dash between venues, or even a fun, windswept veil shot—let’s turn the rain into part of your love story!
Rain or shine, your wedding will be unforgettable, and I’ll be there to capture the magic.
Describe how you got into photography.
My journey into wedding photography was a natural progression from my experiences in photojournalism and family portraits. As a photojournalist for a local newspaper, I honed my skills in capturing candid, authentic moments and telling compelling stories through my images. This experience taught me to work under pressure, anticipate key moments, and document events as they unfolded.
Simultaneously, I found joy in capturing family portraits. This allowed me to connect with people on a personal level, capturing their unique personalities and the love they shared. Whether it was a candid shot of a child laughing or a beautifully posed family portrait, I found immense satisfaction in creating lasting memories for others.
Combining these two disciplines provided me with a unique skill set that naturally led to wedding photography. Weddings are a blend of both worlds: they require the storytelling and candid approach of photojournalism, as well as the personal connection and attention to detail of family portraits.
My first opportunity to photograph a wedding came when a family I had previously worked with asked if I could capture their special day. They appreciated my ability to capture genuine moments and trusted me to document one of the most important days of their lives. The experience was incredibly rewarding, and I quickly realised that wedding photography was a perfect fit for my skills and passions.
In wedding photography, I strive to capture the emotions, joy, and love that define the day. From the nervous excitement before the ceremony to the heartfelt vows and the joyous celebrations, I aim to tell the complete story of the wedding day. Each wedding is unique, and I approach it with the same dedication and enthusiasm that I brought to photojournalism and family portraits.
Photography has given me a unique perspective on life, allowing me to see beauty in the everyday and the extraordinary. It has been a journey of continuous learning and growth, and I am grateful for every moment behind the lens.
