Carina Tess Photography Full Description
My style has a touch of romance to it, and walks along a wild rustic path in order to tell the story of your love. Having studied a mix of photography and illustration, I like to incorporate my artistic vision into the work that I produce for my lovely couples, and so alongside all of the usual photos that you would expect from a wedding day, I also really enjoy getting a little bit adventurous with your couples photos in order to produce something super special and memorable. When I'm not climbing through grass, running up hills or crouching beneath the branches of a forest, I love to wander about and capture all of the fun that comes with each wedding, catching your guests as they laugh and dance or spill their fourth glass of champagne, and this is where my documentary style of photography comes into it's own and really shows off the atmosphere and excitement of your day. I'm not someone who will stand in a corner somewhere quietly sniping photographs, I'll be jumping right into your day and getting into the best positions to catch every moment and provide you with images that leave you feeling connected with your memories as if they came straight from the eyes of your friends and family, and I'll be more than likely be laughing and crying alongside your loved ones as I'm at it! If you're up for having some fun (and the occasional mini adventure!) with your photographs and fancy having an extra friend with you on the day of your wedding, then we'll be the perfect match, and I'll be counting down the days until your day with you!

FAQs
Find out a bit more from our FAQs

What is your most memorable wedding?

Without a doubt, Jack and Ella's goth wedding at the zoo! Think lots of skulls, black, rings in a mini coffin and a room full of black! It was such an amazing wedding to photograph that I really didn't want to leave at the end of the day.

Describe your style in 5 adjectives.

Rustic, adventurous, romantic, artistic, intimate.

What about your business are you most proud of?

This might sound lame, but on more than a few occasions I've had guests assume that I had been friends with my couples for years and I find this really lovely! I come bearing smiles and awkward jokes, and I hope to be the best company possible on your day so that you think of me as just another friend at your wedding, rather than a stranger following your around all day!

What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?

Plan a timeline in advance! Even if you don't stick to it completely, having a timeline is so incredibly valuable for the photographer and other vendors present for your day. It means that I can always be exactly where I need to be at the right time so that nothing is missed, and it ensures that we can fit in as much as possible in the time that we have.

What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?

The bride and groom were big Disney fans and had a table set up with a drawing of the house from UP on a large sheet of paper along with lots of inks. They asked for every guest to use the ink to add their finger print to the drawing, so that when the page was filled, everyone's fingerprints looked like the balloons holding the house up in the sky. It looked absolutely amazing, was fun for the guests to do and for me to watch slowly building up with "balloons" and it was a really lovely personal touch to have everyone's individual finger prints there on something to keep and treasure forever.

Describe your typical process with a couple.

Once you've decided to have me join you on your day, I'll send over a contract for the both of us to sign, followed by an invoice that shows the full cost of the package that you have chosen with me. Once I have received your signed contract and a 25% booking fee, then we are all set and you are officially locked in on my diary and that day is YOURS! You can add me on WhatsApp or email me at any time with updates along the way as the planning for your wedding progresses, and then finally, roughly 1 month before your day, we'll schedule a chat over the phone or Zoom so that we can go over the all important details for the day. I'll also send over a questionnaire for you to fill out so that I can have it with me on the day to check over for any important schedule details or group shot lists. After your wedding, I'll head home, back up your photos to a gazillion different places and then pick out a few to send you as sneak peeks in order to help with the wait for your full gallery! Your fully edited final gallery will then be with you in roughly 6-8 weeks (if not sooner!) and you can share all of your lovely memories with friends and family and enjoy the day all over again.

What is the No. 1 photo that you think every couple should take?

My favourite photographs are always the couple's portraits. They're a wonderful moment for the both of you to step away from all of the excitement for just a moment, and to just breath and simply enjoy each other. There's a special sort of intimacy during this moment that is just so beautiful to capture, and I find that they're so important not to skip out on even if you're not fond of having your photo taken!

What is the most original photo you’ve been asked to take at a wedding?

My beautiful goth bride and groom wanted to get a photo in the bat room in a zoo, which just so happened to be completely dark inside with nothing but red lighting. It was dark, full of members of the public and we weren't allowed to use any flash, so quite honestly the photo ended up being pants (we more than made up with it with photos throughout the rest of the day, don't worry!) but it was still a really unique location and it was super fun to be taking photos of my couple in their favourite spot in the zoo. They loved it and we all had a lot of fun overall.

What do you recommend for a rainy day wedding?

I always bring a couple of clear umbrellas with me just in case we need them and you don't already have your own. Otherwise, I would simply say to embrace it! Dancing in the rain is so much fun! As long as you're not afraid to get wet, rainy day weddings can be absolutely stunning and are every bit as amazing as the sunny ones! Whatever the weather, the main thing is that you get to marry your one and only, and I'll be there to capture it come rain or shine!

Describe how you got into photography.

I began taking photos in 2009 when I was gifted my first DSLR after my brother had taught me how to use his camera. From there I've just not stopped taking photos! I taught myself most of the fundamentals by experimenting with all kinds of different creative ideas and eventually decided that I loved photography so much that I wanted to be able to do it all of the time. I went to college to study a foundation in art and then went on to university to study BA(Hons) Photography, during which time I was able to completely surround myself with nothing but photography, art and creativity. After university I spent a little bit of time saving for the gear that I needed in order to start my own business, and then when I was ready I jumped into the wonderful world of weddings! I feel so lucky to be doing what I love the most while working with the most amazing couples on one of the happiest days of their lives, it's honestly a dream come true for me.
