What is your most memorable wedding?
Last summer I shot a wedding at an old library near Leeds. The couple had tipi's in the field at the back and everything was just so relaxed. They didn't want speeches, so they didn't do them. They didn't want a first dance, so the chilled and listened to an acoustic guitarist instead. There was so much creativity, but at the same time, nothing was done just for the sake of it. What is your No.1 wedding planning tip for couples?
Don't do anything just because you think you have to; it's your day, be as unique as you want to be.
What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?
I always love seeing photos of grandparents and parents weddings on display! I love old photographs and family stories.
Describe your typical process with a couple.
I try and be as available as possible to answer questions via email in the beginning. I think finding any wedding supplier can be quite overwhelming and there is no such thing as a stupid question. We then set up a face-to-face or Skype meeting so we can chat further and make sure we are the right fit for each other. After booking, my inbox is always open for any questions or help with suppliers. I get in touch before the wedding to arrange to chat again and go over all the final details. Within 48 hours of the wedding, I will add a sneak peek from the day to my website, and the final images will be added to an online gallery within 6 weeks.
What is the No.1 photo that you think every couple should take?
Every couple is different and every wedding is different so I wouldn't like to say there is one shot that's more important than another.
What is the most original photo you’ve been asked to take at a wedding?
I haven't really been asked to take any as my clients trust that I'm just there in the background getting real storytelling shots of their day in my own creatuve way.
What do you recommend for a rainy day wedding?
Embrace it! Rain is beautiful.
Describe how you got into photography.
I was stuck in a boring admin job which consisted of filing 99% of the time. I wanted a creative outlet and found a photography night class. I had never picked up a camera before, but went along with my Dad's old 70's film camera and learned how to develop my own film. I loved every second. That course led to a digital photography course, and then a degree. It was during this that a friend asked me to shoot her wedding. I very apprehensively said yes thinking I would hate it and do a terrible job, but in truth I loved it!
