What about your business are you most proud of?
As a professional wedding and elopement photographer, with nearly 8 years of experience, I am most proud of the fact that I get to be a part of one of the most important and memorable days of my client’s lives, and that I can capture the love and joy that is shared in stunning and timeless images that will be cherished for a lifetime. It's an honor and a privilege to document my client’s special moments, and I take great pride in delivering images that will bring back memories of your big day for years to come.
What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?
My number one wedding planning tip for couples is to prioritize and focus on what truly matters to you as a couple. With so many options and details to consider, it's easy to get overwhelmed and lose sight of what's most important. Take some time to sit down together and identify the elements that are most meaningful and valuable to you both, whether it's the venue, the food, the music, or anything else. Once you have a clear sense of your priorities, you can make informed decisions that will help you create a wedding day that reflects your unique personalities and love story, and that you will both cherish for a lifetime. Also remember this is your day. You do not have to please everyone on your guest list.
Describe your typical process with a couple.
Once an inquiry comes in, I stive to reply within 24 hours (if not sooner). I’ll send over my price guide and set up a google meets appointment so we can get to know each other. This is a no pressure meeting and is a great time for the couple to ask me any questions. When the couple decides to move forward, I send over my contract (which is all e-sign) and a deposit invoice. I require a 20% deposit to book, with half of the remaining total to be paid 3 months before the wedding and the last half no later than 2 weeks before. All of which can be paid for virtually. Throughout the remaining planning processes, I will sit down with clients to create a timeline of their big day, visit their venue before to get an idea of lighting and setup, send style and other wedding guides of mine and be there every step of the way.
What is the No. 1 photo that you think every couple should take?
Couples should always prioritize intimante photos of just the two of them together. Away from the wedding party and then guests. These are often the small moments that show the most emotion.
What is the most original photo you’ve been asked to take at a wedding?
I’ve been asked to capture the bride kilt checking her new husband more than in one occasion and it easily becomes my favourite photo
What do you recommend for a rainy day wedding?
We’re in Scotland, rain is just part of the charm! If it’s a misting of rain, I say we continue as planned. Often times, the rain gives this beautiful mythical feel to the photos. We may be a little wet but in the end, rainy day photos have been some of my all-time favorites. If however, it becomes a downpour, even my camera waterproofing will not hold up, so a plan B is always necessary. When I visit the venue for the first time during the planning portion, I always try to find a separate indoor location that can be used in the event of a rain storm.
Describe how you got into photography.
I’ve had a camera in my hand as long as I can remember. My Dad was a hobbyist and he taught me everything I know. I learned how to shoot on a Sony film camera and developed my own film when I was about 11 years old. We had a dark room in the garage of the home I grew up in. As I got older, my Dad bought me my first DSLR and the rest was history. Photography is a passion for me. I love doing what I do and I love being able to use my passion and my art to capture memories that last a lifetime.
