What is your most memorable wedding?
Wow, there are so many amazing weddings over the last ten years. I was lucky enough to be selected by Capital Radio and ex Radio 1 DJ Chris Stark to play at his wedding near Barcelona. Closer to home, we have shared many amazing moments on the dance floor at lovely venues including Ramster Hall, Farbridge, Cissbury & Pelham House.
Describe your style in 5 adjectives.
Musical, mixing, zero-banter, fun!
What about your business are you most proud of?
Special moments on the dance floor
What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?
Find suppliers that you get along with who will do what you ask them to do. This is particularly important with a DJ. Some clients ask us to make the musical decisions, some take control of the whole playlist. It really is your decision. And with a DJ find out whether they focus on the music or being an 'entertainer' playing games and talking over the music.
What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?
Tables named after the couple's favourite bands.
Describe your typical process with a couple.
As they say, it's good to talk. We would chat either on the phone or a video call to see if we are a good fit for each other. This is SO important because every DJ has a different approach and style. Our clients tend to be looking for a DJ who can mix the songs with good transitions and no cheesy games or banter on the microphone.
Once a couple decides to book, we send out a contract with all of the details to confirm the booking. Over the coming months or years (it's good to plan ahead!) the couple can build up their song list either on Spotify or using our online request system.
It's important for us to find out the significance of the songs, for example stag or hen party songs or family favourites that will bring a group of people together on the dance floor.
Some clients just send us the first dance song, some send a list of around 100 songs. It's up to the client how much input they have into the music.
Clients send the song list to us about a month before their wedding so their DJ can make sure that they have all of the songs.
Then we can have a chat through the song list and final preparations for the big day.
And finally... we always aim to arrive earlier than it says on the contract so that everything runs nice and smoothly for you.
Then we rock the dance floor!
What makes a romantic first dance?
A song that has special significance to the couple.
What is your number one floor-filler?
Tricky to answer... if pushed I'd have to go for Superstition by Stevie Wonder. But the songs I play are based on the dance floor and the musical tastes of the couple.
Which band from the past would you most like to have been part of?
Toots & The Maytals. If you've not heard it, take a listen to 54 46, it's such a happy sound!
What is the soundtrack to your life?
Eclectic! My personal tastes range from garage to reggae, drum and bass, hip hop, house, rock and pop.
