What is your most memorable wedding?
I recently performed at a wedding in a lovely town just outside of York. The Bride & Groom asked me to play 90's dance classics from 10pm onwards when all the glow sticks were given out, and it was such a wild last couple of hours. The energy in the room was amazing, the whole building had such a party atmosphere, even the bar staff commented on how not all weddings feel like that! I absolutely loved it!
Describe your style in 5 adjectives.
Energetic, adaptable, skilful, professional, reliable.
What about your business are you most proud of?
I'm the most proud at the end of the night when I speak to the couple just after the last song. When they tell me how they've had the best day of their lives, it truly is an honour and a privilege to be a part of it.
Each set I perform is unique to each couple, wedding, and crowd. Getting to know the couple on a personal level so I can play the songs that they love, the look on their faces when they realise the next song is 'their song' is just the best!
What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?
Add a significant moment later into the night (10pm for example), and I can help with planning this. For example, couples have added a saxophonist for me to play alongside from 10pm onwards which gave the night such a boost of energy and creates an entirely unique experience. Even gathering the crowd for a 'father-daughter' dance can bring everyone back to the same place. Weddings naturally spread out across the venue as the day progresses, so a way to bring everyone together again is a really nice touch.
Describe your typical process with a couple.
When couples contact me with their date and location, they can expect a swift response from me with my availability and price. From there, I really like to get to know the couples on a personal level.
If they live close-by, then grabbing a coffee is a great way to plan things out and come up with creative ideas to make the night special. Alternatively, video call also works great. These meetings go alongside a questionnaire I send over to gather all of the important details in once place.
Typically, I like to meet the couple at least twice before the big day. One to get to know them and get a picture for the day, the other to finalise details.
On the day, you can expect me to be at the right place at the right time. I'll liaise with the venue ahead of time to make the process as smooth as possible so you don't have anything to think about. Once you've chosen to go with me, you can just relax and enjoy the party!
What makes a romantic first dance?
I love a choreographed first dance. Not necessarily because of the dance itself, but the journey the couple took to create it. The lessons, the practicing in the kitchen, listening to the song in the car...all these precious moments come together in a beautiful and artistic way in front of all their friends and family.
