Richard Toomer Full Description
Richard studied music at the Royal Conservatoire in Birmingham and graduated with a B.A. (Hons) in Music with violin as his first study and piano as his second study. With over twenty years experience as a wedding musician, Richard is familiar with how important the ambience, feel and natural flow of the day is. He understands how vital it is to making your day a successful and memorable occasion. Live music plays a vital role in achieving this. Perhaps you want the elegance of Pachelbels ‘Canon in D’ as you gracefully walk down the aisle, your favourite Ed Sheeran song while you sign the register or the grand ‘La Rejouissance’ by Handel as you proudly make your way out after the ceremony. Whatever it is that you want, Richard will make every effort to arrange it and rehearse it ready for your big day. Richard’s experience, built up over twenty years of performing live, ensures that he provides a friendly, professional and bespoke service. His repertoire is both wide and varied and crosses the whole musical spectrum. If your favourite piece of music or song isn't in Richard's repertoire then he will write a special personal arrangement just for you and your guests at no extra cost. Richard can play with or without backing music, on a traditional acoustic violin or his Yamaha electric violin - with or without amplification, giving you a variety of options to fit your musical tastes. For example - He might play unaccompanied classical violin in the church where the acoustics are often so beautiful. This might be followed by a set on the electric violin playing some more upbeat modern pop and rock songs while you and your guests enjoy a drink and a chat before the wedding breakfast. Richard will help guide you through the music so that you can create a wonderful atmosphere for your special occasion.

Absolutely Brilliant Violinist

Absolutely brilliant violinist! A wide repertoire of music - I could have quite happily just sat and listened to him for the whole time he was there, but unfortunately duty called! Would thoroughly recommend Richard though, and I'm only sorry that i could not thank him personally on the day.

Just Perfect!

We were so lucky to have the wonderful Richard Toomer as our violinist for our elopement wedding on July 30th 2019. From our very first correspondence with Richard, he was so warm, professional and enthusiastic. We had a good idea of what we were after, and Richard listened and was so accommodating, even learning two new pieces for us for our day. He also had a vast repertoire for us to choose the bulk of our music from. He played the pieces so beautifully, with his rendition of Steve Earle's Galway Girl bringing me to tears - it was just so perfect! Underlining his versatility, he played a more upbeat version of the same song later on for us all to boogie along to, and it was just fantastic. He learnt Bowie’s Magic Dance for us to exit to and he completely picked up on our enthusiasm for this song and everyone, including the registrars, boogied their way down the aisle. It was wonderful! Richard, thank you for being part of our day and making it so special, you were fantastic!

Talented, flexible, and just brilliant

If you need a violinist or piano player who can play everything from Coldplay to Bach this is your man! Very talented and willing to learn new songs if needed. Very flexible, easy to work with and all bookable online with a good website detailing playlist etc. Feedback from our guests was fabulous - we received so many comments on how good Richard was. I’ll never forget standing in the sunshine hearing Katy Perry’s ‘Firework’ on the violin!

It was the highlight of the service.

Richard played the Intermezzo from Mascani's Cavalleria Rusticana at our wedding with such passion and skill. It was a highlight of the service, and of the whole day!

What is your most memorable wedding?

Being invited to play for Tom Daley and Lance Black's wedding in 2017 at Bovey Castle. This was with my string quartet, the Exe Valley String quartet. All weddings are memorable and unique though!

Describe your style in 5 adjectives.

Lively, musical, atmospheric, happy, romantic

What about your business are you most proud of?

The bespoke service that I am able to offer each and every couple. I am happy to adapt and extend my repertoire to suit any and every request!

What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?

Shop around! There is a lot of choice out there but the good suppliers get booked up quickly so be organised!

What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?

A bride asked me to arrange and play 'Keep right on' the anthem of Birmingham City Football Club. It was a surprise gift for the groom - and well received!!

Describe your typical process with a couple.

I would typically have extensive email or telephone conversations with the bride and groom about what it is they are looking for in terms of music for their big day and the kind of atmosphere thy are trying to achieve. We would discuss song/piece choices and timings for the day etc and then look at budget. When the couple are completely happy I would then ask for a deposit to secure the date and then send out a simple contract of engagement to read and sign. I would always keep in touch with the couple leading up to the special day to make sure that everything runs smoothly.

Which band from the past would you most like to have been part of?

The Beatles - easy!
