Founded by David Rickard, with over 20 years’ experience as a club and festival DJ, Proper Events brings a level of energy, style, and musical understanding that goes far beyond simply “playing songs.” We know how to read a room, build a moment, and create that magic feeling when everyone — from your uni friends to your grandparents — are together on the dance floor.
From your first dance to the final track of the night, everything is carefully curated around you. We take the time to get to know your tastes, your vision, and the kind of atmosphere you want to create, designing a completely bespoke soundtrack that flows naturally through your day and into an unforgettable party.

PROPER Events are based in Shropshire in the West Midlands and we cover anywhere in the UK and abroad. Last year we DJ’d at weddings from Cornwall to Scotland and we love a Destination Wedding too!
We will have an introductory meeting (either online or in person if convenient) and you can see if we’re the right fit for you. Afterwards we encourage you to stay in touch as much as you like. There’s no limit to correspondence or meetings and we’ll always arrange a catch up before the big day to go through the final details.
If you decide that you’re happy to proceed for us to be your wedding entertainment we ask for a signed contract and a 20% deposit to secure the booking. The balance is then due no later than three weeks before the day itself. The contract is very straight forward and just keeps us both covered.
Absolutely! This is where we differ from many other wedding DJs; it’s your day and the music is entirely up to you. We know plenty of great songs from old to new that will keep a dance floor happy, but we don’t know YOUR favourite songs. If you have any must plays do note them down, and if they have a big significance tell us why, so we can make sure they’re played at the right time. Equally, tell us about any must not – under any circumstances – plays!
We can also do custom edits where required for the first dance and other memorable moments.
It’s up to you, however do be aware that we rarely manage to play every single request and if you give us 100s then we definitely won’t be able to play them all. To give you an idea, for an evening playlist a selection of 20 – 30 tunes is about right.
For the daytime playlist it’s no problem if it’s longer – there’s normally more time to play with and it’s easier to fit the majority of your requests in.
We will also happily take requests from your guests (if you agree to this) and will fit in as many of these as we can. Rest assured that we discreetly screen all requests on the night so nothing too left field will be played without your consent.
Our all-white slimline speakers are discreet and sound incredible. Using line array technology they deliver a clean spread of sound over the whole room ensuring that the clarity of the music can be heard regardless of where you’re sitting.
We have a mix of lighting setups depending on which setup you choose (visit the Style Page to see them all) and they all use industry standard equipment.
We are extremely mindful of how much noise we make! We are experienced in complying with the venue’s wishes and are used to working with noise limiters fitted in some venues.
Please feel free to ask us to adjust the volume at any point and do make us aware of any wedding guests who may not appreciate loud music and we will assist in seating them away from the speakers.
Equally we are respectful of local residents and will be as helpful as we can be in quietening things down towards the end of the night in accordance with the venue’s licensing rules.
We are very experienced at working alongside other wedding suppliers and will happily work together to ensure that everything runs smoothly on your special day.
We also love working alongside additional musicians such as a live band or saxophonist. We have a range of good contacts if you need a recommendation.
