What is your most memorable wedding?
Oh wow I wouldn't know where to start haha! There have been countless interesting and unique weddings I've performed at over the years. I suppose the one that pops to mind first is a wedding which was at a venue where the owners of the venue had to pop in half way through the drinks reception... VIA HELICOPTER. So they landed a chopper in the back garden, had a short meeting, and then flew away... That was memorable!
Describe your style in 5 adjectives.
Daytime: Chilled, ambient, fun, upbeat, foot-tapping
Evening: Banterous, relaxed, funny, dance-worthy, memorable
What about your business are you most proud of?
Probably the fact that I embrace who I am, rather than pretending to be some uptight performer who is super professional at all times. I'm professional when it's required, such as for writing up confirmations, and discussing the specifics of your big day. But on the night I just love that people enjoy my performance for me and who I am.
What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?
This is going to sound bias, but... BOOK A MUSICIAN! Even if it's not me, just book one, or at least consider it. It's crazy the amount of couples who have said things along the lines of 'You absolutely made the day, people have not stopped talking about your performance' and yet music was one of, if not THE last thing they considered booking.
My non-musical planning tip would be to not get too hung up on timings/organisation. Obviously don't be afraid to plan as best you can, but at the very least, on the day of your wedding, try to just enjoy yourself. Your suppliers are there to do what they do best and make sure things flow smoothly, and you're there to enjoy and take in the best day of your life, so have fun!
What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?
You know in like, communication centres where they have all the clocks on the wall with all the times of the world? The bride and groom had got a few clocks and used them to signify the timings of the day. I hadn't seen that before, and haven't since!
Describe your typical process with a couple.
I normally do most of my communication through email/text/messenger etc and in the run up to the big day I provide a form for you to fill in with all the final details. With slightly more complicated bookings such as an all day wedding, I usually try to arrange a phone call so we can discuss all the finer details. With any booking, I am of course happy to arrange a phone call to discuss the booking if you like to have a chat on the phone about things! Or you can drop me a message any time, with any questions, and I'll get back to you as soon as I can!
What makes a romantic first dance?
Can I say live music haha!
I would say the backdrop is important, so your photos look super pretty and all that. Also, I've seen some shots where all the guests are gathered round the dancefloor, I think that's a nice emotional touch! Regarding song choice, don't worry too much about what's considered 'acceptable'. Pick a song you both love and that means something to you, that's what matters the most, not what others think.
What is your number one floor-filler?
Love it or hate it, it's gotta be Sweet Caroline. But don't worry if you're a Sweet Caroline hater (you're not alone), just tell me not to play it and I won't. I have so many floor-fillers, you're better off taking a look at my song list!
Which band from the past would you most like to have been part of?
Probably Queen, Freddie's got some serious pipes.
What is the soundtrack to your life?
Why is the last question on this list the most difficult to answer! I guess I'd have to say 'Drift Away' by Dobie Gray. It speaks a lot about the power of music, which as you would probably guess, is important to me as a musician!
