Personal Message from the Manager

Name of Wedding Contact: Gordon Callander
I manage the group and perform in all the various styles of music so would be present from setup till the end of the night and have many years experience of performing at weddings and events. I initially started North East Soiree in 2002 with 3 separate groups that I already played in - String Quartet, Ceilidh Band and Jazz Band. We then added our Covers band and DJ options in 2004. We have now performed at over 1500 weddings and events throughout North East England.

Gordon and the team delivered excellent service for our wedding at Beamish Hall Hotel, nothing was too much trouble (we changed our Venues part way through and there were no issues), they offered advice about the type of packages and when we enquired about having music during our wedding breakfast Gordon was very honest and advised, as a result of past experiences, that he felt the string quartet wouldn't add value in the room. We really appreciate the honesty, especially when it meant they were losing out on potential money! Our guests had nothing but praise for them the whole day, they really were brilliant!

North East Soiree are absolutely incredible. We had an outdoor ceremony & they sounded amazing, they really helped create a romantic setting & we had so many compliments. Fantastic! They made my ceremony so special, I could have listened to them play all day

Beautiful music. Good repertoire so we could have a wide range of music. Set up in a discreet area so did not take up lots of room. Played for a good amount of time. Very good value for money. Great that they recorded themselves so there is a record of our music. Thank you so much North East Soiree

North East Soiree were fantastic all the way from our initial booking, right to the day of our wedding. Nothing was too much for them and the quality of the music they played was top class. They have a great repertoire, which they keep up to date and current, but were also happy to learn any new/ different songs that didn't appear on their lists! Brilliant customer service, a very reasonable price and top quality musicians!

The guys provided a great Ceilidh that was thoroughly enjoyed by our guests, most of which had never tried a ceilidh before. Still a talking point today and would definitely recommend.

Played longer than was paid for and moved around the venue to multiple spots according to weather and what we wanted to achieve on the day. Very professional and exactly what I wanted!!

As a Scottish woman living in the North East, I couldn't have imagined getting married without a ceilidh. Yet I was also conscious that more than half our guests were unlikely to have ever 'stripped a willow'. The band were professional, talented, engaging and incredibly patient when teaching the steps. They were also great at judging the crowd (and their stamina) and allowed helpful interludes of DJ music whilst people recovered. This meant that their time performing lasted a lot longer than would usually be expected, but the band were incredibly accommodating. They were also great in the run up to the big day and really responsive over email. They set up during our meal and were so discreet. Our guests loved the evening, both those who had been to plenty a ceilidh and all the first timers. Right after our first dance, when the band started playing was exactly the moment that both my husband and I really relaxed into our wedding and we never stopped smiling or sat down from that point onward.

We were absolutely set on having a Ceilidh for our wedding even though neither of us had been to one before. Gordon was fantastic at getting the necessarily information to us, as well as offering a fantastic price for not only the Ceilidh but their presence as a DJ for the rest of the night. Communication was easy right up to the event, and I felt I knew exactly what to expect. He made sure to guide us through what was required and send reference for our first dance and we had an amazingly fun time on the night. It's hard work getting people to the dance floor (especially to do something new and different) but Gordon managed to get my family and friends to join us and it made the evening very special for myself and my husband. Thank you to North East Soiree!!

FAQs
Find out a bit more from our FAQs

What is your most memorable wedding?

Our own

Describe your style in 5 adjectives.

Friendly Relaxed Professional Versatile Accommodating

What about your business are you most proud of?

When a Bride and or Groom comes up to me at the end of the night and gives me a hug - I know that we've done well and helped make a day they will never forget.

What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?

Relax and enjoy every step along the way and especially enjoy the day. Don't worry about making the perfect decisions, just enjoy the whole journey together.

What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?

Bride and Groom driving guests home in a mini-bus

Describe your typical process with a couple.

We receive an enquiry and reply with price and details of what we do. If that is a good fit then we accept a deposit of £100 to secure the date and ask for a simple Booking Form to be completed. I update the Form with any payments that are made and send a copy back. We discuss the music requirements and times as the plans take shape and discuss which tunes are to be played when. I arrange all the music and sort the players. Payment is due the week before the wedding so that everything is all sorted and we can all relax and enjoy the day. We perform and everyone has a lovely day.

What makes a romantic first dance?

2 people in love! Nobody cares what the music is. Nobody cares if there is a fantastic dance routine. Everyone just wants to see 2 happy people that want to be together and that's it.

What is your number one floor-filler?

A Ceilidh! But for a disco - Uptown Funk is a good all rounder. Other great tunes work sometimes but not always.

Which band from the past would you most like to have been part of?

There have been so many inspirational performers and bands over the years but you never know what it's like to have to hide backstage then go back on the tour bus to the next hotel thinking... I wish I knew what it felt like to be free! A wedding band doesn't need to hide and I love meeting people and performing different music every afternoon and night then back home again.

What is the soundtrack to your life?

Ceilidh tunes and dances for as long as I can remember in Primary School. Since playing String Quartets for weddings - it's Pachelbel's Canon (over a thousand times so far) but it's still a great tune!
