The fact that I've been able to turn this into my full-time job. I live for music and to play at so many diverse events and broaden my own music knowledge has been fantastic!
When looking for DJ's, I would always ask for the type of music they play - many DJ's are very talented within their own specific niche areas but don't always venture out to other genres. For example, you wouldn't want a DJ who only plays house music to play at your wedding (unless you are a huge fan of house and enjoy nothing else - but chances are your guests won't all. be!). Also, I would always ask about the equipment they have, and photo/video examples of set-ups they have done, to avoid any potentially nasty surprises on the date of your event.
I first have a brief consultation to understand things such as the wedding date, location and timings, and I give an instant quote. To confirm, I take a 30% deposit to hold the date in my calendar, with the outstanding balance payable at any time up to the date of the event. I also have a bunch of optional extras (such as enhanced or premium lighting, LED DJ booth, cold spark machines, starlit dancefloor, moving head lights, mock fire/flame machines, haze machine, screen, etc) and a corresponding price list, so you can "build your own package" and decide exactly what you'd like. I then work with the couple and request a list of must-play songs for your big day. I look at this list and then instantly know the exact type of vibe you're going for, and build out a tailored playlist based on the songs you choose!
Cater for everyone! Everyone has their own styles and favourite genres of music. You must stick to what the bride and groom want though as it's their day, but it's important to read the crowd too - something which takes years and years of experience to be able to do well!
The O2 Academy with Annie Mac was pretty special! The ICC with MistaJam and Scott Mills over two separate events was also a highlight. Red Bull also asked me to DJ Leicester Diwali to 40,000 people which was fantastic - and performing for BBC Children In Need was also a highlight!
