Empire Formal Tailor

We took my fiancé's suit (jacket, waistcoat and x2 trousers) to be altered at Empire Menswear, Grantham and ended up with them ruining it. They also convinced us to buy a shirt which they would "tailor" to my fiancé which looks like a pair of aladin trousers because it is so baggy. Issues: 1. The jacket sleeves needed to be shortened however what we ended up with 2 sleeves of different lengths and one had been ruined because the material was stitched wrong causing the whole arm to be pulled into wrinkles on movement. One sleeve was also not straight at the end. Pictures attached. 2. The waist of both trousers needed to be taken in. They took them in by the waist down to the outside leg - this meant the trousers were too tight around the crotch and had a "butterfly" pulling of the fabric. Photos attached. 3. The waistcoat had open flaps at the side initially (triangular shaped) but when they altered it not only did they sew up these flaps to make the shape of the waist-coat into a pot-belly figure, they also only took in one side of the waistcoat so it was wonky. I have attached photos of this as well as the awful state they left the inside of the waistcoat in. 4. They also convinced us to buy a shirt which they would "tailor" to my fiancé which looks like a pair of aladin trousers because it is so baggy. Photos attached. Solution: they offered to repair all of this damage free of charge however we lived an hour away and we also didn't trust whoever had ruined this suit to have another attempt with the wedding so close. They then gave us a partial refund (£75 refund but we paid £170, not even 50% for nothing but damage and no compensation). We had to take it to another tailors for £170 to repair all of the damage they had caused. The tailors were shocked and happy to give evidence to support our claims against this fraud. Therefore I would recommend that you steer well away from this establishment so they don't ruin anything for your important events.

We did a mixture of hiring and buying suits for our wedding last month and highly recommend! Absolutely wonderful customer service - Chad made us feel super comfortable and whole process was seamless. It was important to us to use local small businesses and the amount of choice was incredible. Chad couldn't do enough for us. Three words. DO NOT USE! Myself and my best friend used Chad for both of our weddings and what a mistake it was from day one. Each and every time we went to store there was an issue. Issue #1 he never used a measuring tape! What tailor doesn’t use a measuring tape?! He guessed our sizes by pinning the suits! 2# He took money and then made out he had never received it and that he expected the same payment again. 3# He made out he had ordered ‘new’ items but then we received second hand items which were faulty; bobbling to shirt (which he admitted to taking out of the packet to allow another customer to try on after we had paid for it!) another new? shirt with black fluff/bobbling to collar/cuffs. #4 ordered the wrong trouser size (which was noticed on day of wedding). #5 Made a fake Marc Darcey invoice when asked to see the invoice to represent the true order and price of items. 5# Button fell off brides brothers waistcoat on day of wedding 6# Sent suits off numerous times for alterations (each and every time never measuring just ‘assuming’) which came back butchered and didn’t fit yet demanded more money for alterations. Made out us as customers had picked up items which we hadn’t. #7 Gave a second hand suit as all tags had been cut off yet the other two had tags on #8 Tried charging again for ties when they had already been paid. #9 Multiple collar sizes on order were wrong, yet he refused to resolve this even though they had been paid for #10 We requested an itemised invoice yet he made one on a blank email #11 Refuses to offer any compensation or refunds. This man is a con artist, fraud, crook who’s store needs shutting down immediately. We are having to take further with trading standards and the police as he is now avoiding all correspondence. Do not allow yourselves to endure the stress or unnecessary rudeness and lies that this man allows his poor customers to consume.

Was struggling to find decent suits for our wedding but as soon as we went into Empire everything just worked! They was very helpful and we found exactly what we needed in no time... would highly recommend this place if your looking for a quality suit!

Myself and my husband had to attend a wedding at the weekend and like a typical man he left it until last minute. We popped into Empire on the off chance they may have something in store. We were amazed at how helpful the gentleman were and the range they had in store. We managed to get a suit with alterations, shirt, footwear and tie within a week. We couldn't thank them enough. I always feel uncomfortable shopping for suits, but in empire they made me feel comfortable and welcome. Even when I chose the wrong colour theme! It was no trouble for them, and got it sorted with the right shade of red. I would definitely recommend the store. Thee suits were very good quality, as were the staff and store. Will be buying my next suit for a friends wedding from here.
