What is your most memorable wedding?
Wedding marquees are always a special build, and we love being involved in helping to create the ideal venue for a couple’s magical day.
We once installed a marquee on the top of a hill in Otley; a wonderful spot for a wedding. The stunning views were emphasised through feature window walls to three sides, and an outdoor decked area provided a lovely vantage point as well as additional space.
The florist created a beautiful internal screen using eucalyptus trees to separate the reception and bar from the formal dining area. This was a very unique touch which highlighted the marquee’s potential.
It was an absolute pleasure to work with such a lovely family and to be so creative with the structure. We have worked with them since their wedding to provide marquees for family birthday celebrations.
Describe your style in 5 adjectives.
BESPOKE means we recognise that every couple is different and every wedding is different but our approach is always
COLLABORATIVE because we like to work closely with our couples and any of their other suppliers to build
POSITIVE relationships so that we can get to know their vision for their day together, allowing us to ensure
EXCELLENT and valuable communications to help realise their dream moment through our
SKILLED designs and installations.
What about your business are you most proud of?
As Marquee Director at CGC Event Marquees, I am extremely proud of how repeatedly delighted our clients are with the outstanding results we deliver.
However, this wouldn’t be possible without the consistently positive efforts of a great team.
What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?
Planning for your wedding should be a process as exciting, memorable and as treasured as the moment you exchange vows.
There are many things to consider, decisions to be made and possibly various companies/people/suppliers all involved in supporting that process.
Our number 1 tip would be to ‘own your wedding planning journey.’
Allow those involved in the planning of your wedding to guide the way but don’t be afraid to ask questions or to request suppliers liaise with each other if it takes the pressure off you.
Your wedding, your journey, your way!
What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?
Weddings are always a very personal union and celebration, and we enjoy being a part of every wedding planning journey we’re entrusted with.
Every stage of the process is unique and personal so it’s difficult to isolate a particular favourite.
Describe your typical process with a couple.
The first step once a couple have expressed interest in exploring a marquee wedding with us, would be for Sarah or Mark to make contact with them (usually by phone if a number has been provided) to discuss their ideas, gather more details such as what stage of planning they are at, and to answer any questions.
After this the process is very much dependent on the individual couple and the way that best suits them to proceed with any further enquiries or potential planning.
Options could be arranging a site visit with Mark, emailing more information across with images, estimated price guides and suggested ideas, or scheduling a zoom call or follow up phone call to discuss their thoughts further.
How do you create an ambiance in a marquee?
The marquee is a temporary structure and as such it has great potential for transformation.
More than a shelter, more than an awning, more than a tent…the marquee is possibility!
Whether you are inspired by the grandeur of a manor house or by the charms of a country barn, there are many options when it comes to creating a space which oozes personality and character.
Lighting, flooring, furniture, linings and decorations all impact on the overall look and feel of the marquee but there is another contributor in achieving the right ambience for you…
The people!
Laugh, celebrate and dance together.
Where is the most exciting place that you have put a marquee?
We have previously installed marquees on city centre roof-tops!
This was an exciting and challenging experience proving that marquees are more versatile than most expect.
Flat, level land helps but for most other terrains whether up high, uneven, turfed or paved there are usually installation options. We also have some very tall ladders in our warehouse!
What is your record time for putting up your marquee?
Marquees can come in all shapes, sizes and configurations.
They are temporary structures, and as such the health and safety of both our team and our clients is a high priority.
We recognise that some installations might require only half a day while others several days depending on their size and complexity.
For us it’s not so much about record time but effective time management to ensure every marquee is secure, safe, decorated and ready to host the celebrations on time.
What is your favourite design of marquee and why?
Annexes adjoining the main marquee are always interesting to design and build. They are great for providing additional space which can have various uses from a quiet chill-out room to a children’s entertainment area.
It can be a really exciting and creative process from the initial idea to the final installation.
We have even created a secret chocolate fountain annex as a surprise for a bride from the groom. The bride had no idea about it until the day of the wedding, so it was a pretty special build.
