What is your most memorable wedding?
Working with the seasons means that no two weddings are the same, even if they take place a week or two apart, the flowers will be subtly different. One gorgeous wedding we did in both in 2021 as a small ceremony and in 2022 with a full wedding party was a beautiful brights wedding. Both bridal bouquets had Icelandic poppies, but the other flowers were hugely different as one took place in Mid-Spring and the other in Early Summer. The Mid-Spring bouquet featured Tulips and Ranunculus; the Early Summer one was alive with Cornflowers and Aarons Rod.
Describe your style in 5 adjectives.
Truly seasonal, wild, locally grown
What about your business are you most proud of?
At the Wild Zinnia our focus is always on sustainable wild Beauty. We don't use floral foam, single use plastics and use organic methods to grow our flowers. Everything we do has an eye on sustainability; one more thing you don't have to think about on your big day.
What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?
Choose pros who share your vision for the day and then leave it to them until it's time for the final flourishes. Theres nothing that saps the joy of wedding planning than months of emails!
What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?
A Promise Tree. Instead of presents, every guest promised to do something with the happy couple in the year after their marriage. A great way of making fun, new memories with friends and for keeping in touch with distant family.
Describe your typical process with a couple.
We start the process with an informal phone or zoom chat, we only use our own British flowers; either our own or flowers that we can source locally. So if seasonal flowers are your thing and you like what we do; that's a good place to start.
We'll then talk you through the kind of things we can offer you; what will likely be in season when you are getting married and will ask you for some inspiration from pintrest or things you've seen that you love.
We'll then draft an initial estimate of the cost of your flowers. If you want to book us for the day then a booking fee of £100 or a 10% booking fee for weddings over £1000 is payable.
Then leave it to us. We will plant our field with flowers in the colour palette you've told us you love and you don't need to be in touch with us again until just before your wedding.
We love for our couples to come to the field with us a fortnight before their big day. We can't guarantee that the exact flowers you'll see on that day will be the ones you'll have in your bouquet but it'll be our best guess! You'll probably see something else you love as you're walking around and we'll add it to our picking list for the day. We'll put together a few stems of your favourites so you've got an idea what it'll look like together and then leave it to us. We'll see you on the morning of your big day with your locally grown beautiful flowers.
What is the most romantic flower and why?
People always say Roses are the most romantic, and whilst our deliciously scented roses are gorgeous in June, they won't make much of a contribution to a Spring or Autumn wedding! What we love the most is when couples come to us together and choose what they both really love.
What should you do with the flowers after the wedding?
Some flowers dry well, others press well. But any bridal bouquet that's been loved on the day will probably be looking a bit worse for wear by the end! Our favourite way of loving flowers after the wedding is when you come back to us a year later to order an anniversary bouquet with the same seasonal flowers because you loved the first ones so much!
