The Bell Jar Flowers Full Description
Hi, I'm Nikki the founder of the Bell Jar Flowers. The Bell Jar is my flower studio, and is based in the glorious county of Nottinghamshire. Home to a growing British flower farm movement in its beautiful, largely undiscovered countryside, the county is known for its rich heritage of creative textile and lace making. All my life I have been interested in nature, architecture, interiors, design, books, theatre and the arts. I founded The Bell Jar to provide a natural style of floristry, with an emphasis on design and creativity. Using British flowers wherever possible is really important to me, as is the use of sustainable materials and favouring conventional techniques (such as the use of chicken wire and flower frogs for structuring arrangements) championed by the horticulturalist Gertrude Jekyll and floral decorator Constance Spry. I specialise in seasonal, natural arrangements which draw on the traditions of overgrown English gardens and are influenced by the beautiful Nottinghamshire landscapes around me. Expect hellebores in winter, delicate anemones in spring, garden roses in summer and bold dahlias in autumn. I specialise in beautifully crafted and designed wedding flowers throughout Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Lincolnshire; from small intimate weddings to large church and marquee ceremonies.

Absolutely wonderful from start to finish!

I really couldn’t recommend Nikki more highly. The flowers for our wedding were absolutely perfect and so beautiful! We had so many compliments. The communication was brilliant throughout and at no point did I ever have to worry which is a godsend around your wedding day. Nikki really went above and beyond, even remembering our original pre-Covid wedding date and sending us a little note to say she was thinking of us. Just so many lovely little touches. Nikki is truly a gem

Nikki's flowers were so beautiful

Nikki's flowers were so beautiful, and exactly what we wanted for our wedding. The colours and textures photographed amazingly, and knowing that Bell Jar is local and sustainable meant a lot to us. Nikki was absolutely lovely to chat to at every step, and the care and detail she put into all of our flowers was second to none. Thank you so so much!

Your passion really shines through.

Nikki created my wedding bouquets for myself and my three bridesmaids and, two weeks later, I’m still blown away. The attention to detail was incredible and she really listened to what I wanted as well as making fantastic suggestions to make the flowers extra-special. The planning she put in beforehand was incredible and the communication was fantastic. Nikki even met up with my mum and I to talk through options and made a miniature bouquet to give us a clear idea of what to expect.

Describe your style in 5 adjectives.

natural, seasonal, wild, romantic, sustainable

What about your business are you most proud of?

I love being part of such a happy day for the wedding couple and making the flowers perfect. The floristry industry is very supportive of each other and it is wonderful being part of such a creative community. British flower farms are a growing trend and I try to use as many British flowers as I can with no floral foam.

Describe your typical process with a couple.

The first step would be to meet you, the wedding couple - either over a coffee or at the venue so we can get to know each other and find out what flowers you had in mind. This of course would be free of charge and without any obligation at all. We could have a chat about everything floral and what hopes and dreams you would have for your big day. Then I would put together an initial quote and if there is a budget I would try and work out solutions and recommendations so that this isn't exceeded. If the initial quote is ok then I would ask for a deposit to secure the booking and then provide a detailed quote which would include a colour palette and moodboard, as well as a complete breakdown of the flowers. On the day itself I will deliver the bouquets and buttonholes to your home or venue and will be on site to style the venue and make sure everything is absolutely perfect. Of course I can also dismantle at the end of the day if required.

What is the most romantic flower and why?

Everyone loves a beautiful rose but my personal favourite, if I had to name one, would be an anemone. At the moment I really love the pale coffee and apricot coloured flowers - in particular the dahlia "cafe au lait" is gorgeous!

What should you do with the flowers after the wedding?

Take them home, share them with your guests and family and enjoy them!
