What is your most memorable wedding?
A wedding I fondly recall, is the wedding of my oldest daughter. It featured dahlias as the centerpiece of its floral theme, transforming a simple marquee into a breathtaking, fairytale-like space. Guests were welcomed through an entrance lavishly adorned with large floral arrangements of dahlias, creating an enchanting gateway that hinted at the magic within. Inside, the beauty of dahlias continued to mesmerise, with suspended arrangements that seemed to float above the guests, adding a sense of wonder and elegance. The entire decor was a testament to the versatility and stunning beauty of dahlias, making the marquee not just a venue, but a vivid, floral dream come to life.

Dogs! Big and small, wearing our beautiful bespoke dog flower collars.

This initial meeting is essential, where we delve into the couple's vision, exploring themes, colour palettes, and flower choices. We also discuss the venue, budget, and logistical details. Communication is absolutely paramount and remains a key focus throughout the journey towards perfect wedding flowers. What is the most interesting thing you have put in a bouquet?
At Milston Flower Barn, I'm often asked to incorporate a piece of heirloom jewellery into the bridal bouquet. This request always adds such a lovely, personal touch to the arrangement. Including a cherished family heirloom, like a vintage brooch or a delicate pendant, into the bouquet not only enhances its beauty but also lends it deep sentimental value. It's a beautiful way to honour family traditions and memories, transforming the bouquet into more than just a floral piece, but a meaningful part of the bride's journey down the aisle.
Is there a flower that has specific symbolism that you would recommend for couples?
I'd recommend peonies. Peonies symbolise romance, prosperity, and good fortune, making them a perfect choice for weddings. They convey a wish for a happy marriage and are known for their lush, full blooms, which add a luxurious feel to any arrangement. Choosing a flower with such positive and love-related symbolism can add an extra layer of meaning to your special day.
What is the most romantic flower and why?
My favourite, and definitely super romantic flower is the Sweet Pea. Sweet Peas have a delicate, ruffled appearance and a sweet fragrance, making them a charmingly romantic choice. They symbolise pleasure, bliss, and thankfulness, which are lovely sentiments for a couple. Their variety of soft, pastel colours and gentle scent lend an air of old-fashioned romance and whimsy to floral arrangements, perfect for a couple seeking something unique and traditionally British for their special day.
What should you do with the flowers after the wedding?
After the wedding, couples have several thoughtful and meaningful options for their flowers:
Preserve Them: Some flowers can be dried or pressed, turning them into keepsakes or home decor.
Donate Them: Donate the arrangements to hospitals, nursing homes, or other facilities where they can bring joy to others.
