What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?
To look at the wedding holistically, not simply to concentrate on one part but to ensure the whole day is cohesive and beautiful. Don’t stress the small details but stand back and look at the whole picture.
What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?
Personal messages written to each guest on the reverse of name cards.
Describe your typical process with a couple.
We firmly believe that we can make anything look good, but making it feel exactly right, and individual to each couple, needs a lot more thought. We do this by starting with a few words that our couples feel encapsulates how they want their dream day, and flowers, to feel. Following this, we generally design and sketch the bridal dress and bouquet (after all, the bride is pretty key to the floral landscape!). Next we walk through the route of the wedding. This starts from the ceremony through to drinks, dinner and then party time. We sketch everything we cannot show examples of and follow all of this with an itemised quotation which we suggest that couples regard as a shopping list.
What is the most interesting thing you have put in a bouquet?
From thistles to Heather, grandparents wedding rings to family heirlooms, we have incorporated it all!
Is there a flower that has specific symbolism that you would recommend for couples?
The royal family always include Myrtle, incorporated into every bridal bouquet since Queen Victoria married Prince Albert. At LGF we always try to help establish a signature flower with our couples, something that is symbolic and meaningful. Creating flower messages, using species that have a special meaning, is fun and memorable. We love to help with this.
What is the most romantic flower and why?
These change by season and will invariably be fragrant. Spring and early summer sees Lily of the Valley at its strongest and most beautiful. Summer sees the garden rose or Peony, both in a multitude of glorious shades, come into their own. Autumn allows Dahlias to provide vibrant colour and texture and Winter/ early spring sees Stephanotis and Tulips enter the romantic arena.
What should you do with the flowers after the wedding?
There are all sorts that you can do with your flowers after the wedding so that they can get a second use - offer your guests to take them home, re-use them the next day for post-wedding brunch, or get your personal flowers preserved in some shape or form! At Lavender Green, any flowers that you choose not to keep after the wedding get taken back to our warehouse in Windsor and through our in-house donations initiative, they then go to one of our large network of local charities to raise money or spirits! We always aim to let you know where your flowers have ended up so that you can see them spreading even more joy than they did on your wedding day.
