What is your most memorable wedding?
My most memorable wedding was a wedding set by a private lake. It was beautiful. An open marquee with chairs was set up by the waters edge and I dressed the band stand with flower garlands and rose petals.
Describe your style in 5 adjectives.
"Funky" is our style! Bling! Memorable; bespoke; different;
What about your business are you most proud of?
I am proud that I have had some beautiful weddings to prepare & be part of over the last ten years of trading as Funky Florists. Although I have been in the floristry industry for over forty years I love to see the different flower trends come back into play again but with a modern twist.
What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?
Colours and styles can be changed at your final appointment but the sensible & important thing to do is to book early & reserve your date to avoid being disappointed when your date is already taken.
What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?
Pageboy brooches. 2 years and upwards, they need to be a part of your plans & a hand made heart brooch with fresh flower buds woven into them makes them feel most important, especially when Mum's & Grandma's have matching Brooches but on a bigger scale.
Describe your typical process with a couple.
When a couple first come to visit our wedding room I like to find out about the bridesmaids dress colours and the style or theme that the couple might have in their minds. I then like to elaborate on this by showing them ideas to support their desires in a way that is affordable for them to achieve.
What is the most interesting thing you have put in a bouquet?
Over the years I have wired in Grandma's engagement ring for "something old and blue". I have wired in lockets of love ones too, resting them into a calla lily or nestled into a rose. Pearl necklaces and brooches can also be added in among the flowers. Also I have used sea shells, star fish, and even spiders. These are lovely for a Halloween themed wedding where a discreet gem brooch spider can be placed to keep. I have even made wedding bouquets in a sandcastle bucket that had a spade and a windmill. If the couples have the ideas I can create!
Is there a flower that has specific symbolism that you would recommend for couples?
Roses are available all year round. Growers all over the world make sure that there is a trending coloured rose to match the latest trending wedding clothes.
What is the most romantic flower and why?
I think that the rose is the most romantic flower. They come in all shapes and sizes and so many colours and some even have the most memorable perfumes. Once used for a wedding it can be encouraging for a loved one to purchase them regularly to remember their perfect day!
What should you do with the flowers after the wedding?
Brides bouquets of roses will naturally dry if they are careful. Mum's brooches with rose buds etc will naturally dry & kept as a reminder of the day. A Table center arrangements can be gifted to family & friend members to enjoy & appreciate.
