Felicity Westmacott - Dressmaker Full Description
A free design consultation appointment begins the process where we will discuss what you require covering elements such as style, materials, the budget and time-scale. A design sketch and cost quotation will then be posted or emailed to you for your consideration. An individual pattern will be drafted to your measurements and series of private fittings will ensure a perfect fit and finish. The process of a bespoke bridal dress will usually include the making of a toile, which is a mock-up of the design in cheaper materials, allowing the maker to perfect the cut and the wearer to check the style. All consultations and fittings take place in my studio so you will be completely private and you will have my full attention during your appointment. Felicity has more than 17 years experience helping thousands of brides feel wonderful on their special day.

Life in Colour!

Felicity did an amazing job altering my wedding dress. Removal of sleeves, the addition of a belt that looked like it had always been part of my dress, and the usual shortening of the length, as well as adjusting the shoulders! Fantastic value, clear communication (especially as I know nothing about altering dresses) and a pleasure to work with. Thank you so much, I would recommend Felicity in a heartbeat! Claire

Stunning bespoke wedding gown

I met Felicity to discuss what I needed from a wedding gown, and it was clear from the start that she listened to what I wanted and was committed to turning my ramblings into the most beautiful gown! I had two or three fittings, with minor changes made to the design as we went along (depth of neckline, for example). The final gown was exactly as I had imagined it from Felicity's sketch. It fitted me like a glove, it flattered me, and it made me feel incredible. And throughout the whole process, Felicity was helpful, practical and clear. I cannot recommend her highly enough. Make an appointment, book yourself in - you won't regret it!

I couldn’t have found anyone better

Felicity was a wonder-worker and has become a friend (you can’t stand in your bra and knickers in someone’s front room being measured for them not to become a friend). I came prepared to my first meeting with pictures of dresses I liked (not all of them wedding dresses) and what I wanted most out of my dress (sleeves, to be able to move in it, and to be able to go to the toilet without assistance from others!) and she created a beautiful drawing of a dress with a coat over the top. She mirrored my chief bridesmaid’s dress along those lines and advised me on the colour choice based on the tie silk my fiance had picked for his side of the wedding party. Next up was picking the material - with several huge lever arch files to pick from - but with her guidance nothing was overwhelming. The dress fittings - done to coincide with my bridesmaid’s availability - were a dream and I loved seeing the process come together. Felicity advised on everything - from underwear to shoes. Not only did she make my dress and coat and bridesmaid’s dress - she also made a ‘going away’ outfit for me (we were going out for dinner with just immediate family that night and I didn’t want to spill gravy down my beautiful dress), she reinvigorated my mother’s veil including re-sewing lace from my mum’s dress and bits of lace from mine on to it and with a moment’s notice (as she was due to be flying to New Zealand a few days later) offered and sewed 3 bolero jackets, in the same style as my bridesmaid’s dress, for my 3 flower girls from the off cuts of the blue material. Felicity is utterly amazing and I couldn’t recommend any one better.

My dress was so beautiful and different – just wha

I am not sure I have the adequate words to express how thankful I am or how talented and wonderful I think you are, but I’ll give it a go. My hopes and dreams for my dress were actualised by your amazing hands. It’s been more than a pleasure working wit you and getting to know you. My dress was so beautiful and different – just what I wanted. You made me shine on our special day.

You took my design and were so passionate about it

Dear Felicity, I know I've thanked you in lots of ways but I just wanted to write to say what a truly talented girl you are. You took my design and from day one made me feel like you were so passionate about it – so sure of where you were going with it I felt totally at ease. I loved coming to your house and sharing everything from fabric samples to life stories with you and the final product – simply breathtaking. I have had so many compliments on the dress – all that detail and though paid off! I wish you every bit of success with your business and with the arrival of your beautiful new baby. Thank you a million times. Love, Vicki xxx

FAQs
Find out a bit more from our FAQs

What is your most memorable wedding?

Many spring to mind, the vintage wedding dress remodelled so a bride wore her mother's dress, but with a modern twist; the bride who loved the Royal wedding and had her dress hand appliquéd with the same lace, almost invisible in photographs but costing twice as much as the dress itself; the biggest dress I've ever made trimmed with 30m of blue lace and

Describe your style in 5 adjectives.

Elegant, Individual, Spectacular, Perfectionist, Colourful

What about your business are you most proud of?

Creating brides' dreams, being a part of each person's special day and knowing you helped make it perfect

What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?

Don't worry too much about pleasing others in your dress choice, in fact very few people remember the wedding dress unless they planning a wedding themselves or your mother, so don't compromise on what you want. Choose your dream dress and feel fabulous, disregarding what you assume other's will think of any particular detail.

What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?

Seeds or little plants given as favours, something that will grow and live not just be thrown away

Describe your typical process with a couple.

I usually only meet the bride! It all starts with a free consultation appointment where we look at design ideas, fabrics and detail. Then she'll receive a written quote with sketches and fabric samples on which to base a decision. I measure the bride and make a 'toile' or practice run to check fit and style before cutting the real fabrics. A series of fittings ensure perfection. Then steaming and a dress bag are included in the making price.

What do you love most about your job?

Meeting happy people... and making them even happier!

What is your favourite style of wedding dress?

Historical... perhaps 18th century... or something very modern and chic

What is the best way to incorporate "Something Blue" into the wedding outfit?

I always sew in a tiny blue bow and rose, right next to the wrist loop on the train of a wedding dress, so when you lift the train to keep it out of the dust the something blue is revealed.

What is your favourite wedding dress of all time?

Apart from my own, there are two others I have made that I have thought, yes, if I hadn't worn my own I'd have felt wonderful in that one... you can see them here http://felicitywestmacott.co.uk/portfolio/tyler1.html http://felicitywestmacott.co.uk/portfolio/simpson1.html
