This one had to be the wedding of my best friend. She asked for the design to be a surprise! I had to bake the cake, decorate it and then trust my hubby to deliver it to the venue as I was a bridesmaid! In between photos I had to finish the set up of the cake, and luckily my friend and her hubby loved the cake! Phew!
Elegant, traditional, floral, friendly, personable
This year I was entered into an awards and ended up a finalist! Although I didn't win the award, I was immensely proud of what this little one woman, work from home mum business has achieved over the last 6 years.
Get everything booked in as soon as you can. That way, you'll know that everything is in place and you won't be stressing before the big day.
I always love seeing the handmade touches, such as table plans and table decorations.
Usually after a few emails, we meet up for a cuppa and a chat about cake (and some samples, obviously!). Then we finalise the design details, flavours etc and I type up an order form for the couple to complete to book in with me. It's very informal, and totally unpressured. I'm not a salesperson - just a baker :)
I would say my signature cake is becoming either the naked cake, or classic elegance with sugar roses and lace.
A recent cake was a semi-naked cake decorated with drippy chocolate ganache and different flavour macarons. At the venue it got a load of compliments with nearly everyone saying they had never seen a cake like that before!
After my own wedding in 2009, I needed a new hobby as wedding planning had taken over my life a little bit - oops! I enrolled on a sugar flowers course at the Huddersfield Technical College as it was then, and started to learn to create intricate sugar flowers. The first ones I learned were sweet peas, and by the time I was wiring together my first bouquet I was hooked! From there I've gone on to improve my skills dramatically in both sugar flowers and cake decoration, and 6 years into my business journey we're doing better than ever!
Hmm, I'd need a bit more time than they usually get on the Bake Off, but I'd probably come up with a 3 or 4 tier wedding cake. It's what I know!
