Hi I'm Jen,
I'm an award winning cake maker, based in Stockport/Manchester.
As a bride to be myself, one who is DIY-ing as much of the wedding as possible and on a total budget of less than £9k, I wanted to offer couples budget friendly wedding cakes and treat tables with specially crafted packages & tasty menus.
My cake packages are perfect for couples like me and my partner who just want a beautiful and simple budget-friendly cake without compromising on quality.
We cover 180 mile roundtrip from Stockport SK5. Please get in touch with us if you wish to find out more info!
A wedding at Stirk House, upon delivery I was met with 5 different road closures and a herd of sheep, I finally got the cake all set up, saw the bride and wished her good luck and then went home, to avoid the road closures I ended up going down some random road that google took me down, turns out it was a farmers private road and we accidentally broke his gate trying to get out. We laugh about it now but it was terrifying at the time as I expected to be shouted out by the farmer ( although I did initially wheeze laugh before the panic ). Turns out it was already broken but we thought we had done it.
Quirky, Fun, Simplistic, Elegant, Rustic
Winning an award will always be a highlight, but also just simply creating and growing my business is an achievement I'm proud of, as a neurodivergent person with both Autism and ADHD I always struggled with maintaining general jobs, but this became a major passion and one I never gave up on and met so many wonderful people and done so much!
Don't stress (easier said than done, I find myself stressing loads too) but honestly just expect s**t to happen and roll with it. 99% of weddings I have attended or supplied to, something goes wrong but don't let any hiccups ruin your day. It's about you and your partner and the love you share and sharing it with more people you love, those hiccups are nothing in comparison to that.
I'm a sucker for animals so I adore seeing little figures of pets on cakes (and Yep, my three cats will be on mine!)
A typical process would be discussing the cake with the couple and finding out the things they like and want for their cake, how many to serve / size, colours/themes and flavours, confirming what they want and generating a quote, if the couple are happy with the quote they have the option of having a tasting box which they can collect from me in Stockport or I can post one out to the couple (small additional cost for the tasting boxes). If the couple are happy to proceed we will run through the contract and sign it. A small deposit will be taken with the balance due 4 weeks before. Closer to the time I will discuss things again, double check details and confirm you still want the same design etc. Couples are more than welcome to ask any questions they have, even if its on the run up to the wedding / after ordering, or if they want to find out info about working along side other suppliers such as a florist who is supplying flowers for the cake etc.
Definitely Carrot Cake, I make a great Carrot Cake and it's also my favourite ( as well as Red Velvet!). I remember a lady telling me that no one could ever get her to like Carrot Cake... then she tried mine and was gob smacked that she liked it, thanks to my little extra ingredient which enhances its flavour!
I'd say a Cake with a stack of brownies/blondies but these are now becoming quite popular!
I started to learn how to do sugar flowers and other intricate detailed sugar items and slowly started to create fake wedding cakes on cake dummies to test out my creations. I won an award for a 4 tier design I did for Cake International and it gave me the confidence to start providing wedding cakes to customers and loved it ever since!
I could NOT handle GBBO so no show stopper for me! I'd just curl up and cry ha ha ha
