Simply Alpa Full Description
Thank you for stopping by to look at my cakes and congratulations on your engagement! I want to make the wedding cake process a fun and enjoyable one to help create a cake that reflects you and your wedding to your guests. So you end up with not just a delicious cake but one that becomes a talking point amongst your guest, one that has them chatting away around it before its cut and long after your wedding they are still letting you know that your cake on your wedding day was amazing! The journey starts with a consultation where during a chat about ideas on designs you can taste a selection of cakes whilst we work towards creating a design. Working with the couple to create something special to your wedding. Cakes are elegant and tall, each tier (individual cake) is made up of four layers of cake and three filling layers, this is then encased in a layer of chocolate ganache to give it a smooth finish and stable structure whilst keeping the cake moist. Then a thin layer of icing to cover the cake before being decorated. Service includes sketches, for the more bespoke service a personalised sketch of the final design and all cakes are delivered and set up on the day. We also offer decorated biscuits which can be given out to guests as favours and look beautiful as an additional feature on the tables. It's never too early to enquire about your wedding so to avoid disappointment please don't leave it too late!

The cake was a huge part of our perfect wedding day

Alpa made our wedding cake and was a pleasure to deal with! Despite my partner or I not knowing exactly what we wanted, Alpa interpreted our needs perfectly and the end product was a stunning cake that both tasted and looked incredible. We had four different flavours of cake and the guests at the evening reception wanted to try them all! Our guests couldn’t believe the sugar flowers were real and the detailing on the cake was unbelievable. The cake was a huge part of our perfect wedding day and we’d highly recommend Alpa to anyone!

Breathtakingly beautiful

I still haven’t got round to thanking all our suppliers but I am making a start with our incredible cake. Not only did it taste divine but it was breathtakingly beautiful and better than we ever imagined it to be. She’s truly an artist and we can’t recommend her enough. If you need a wedding cake go straight to Alpa (and her local pub is delight too!”

an absolute pleasure to work with

“If you are looking for the most stunning wedding cake then Alpa is your lady. Her sugar-craft skills are just out of this world, the flowers which adorned our cake looked so lifelike and I am so pleased that we managed to save a few as a keepsake from our big day. Our wedding cake was one of my favourite surprises on the day and was a wonderful talking point amongst our guests. We chose lemon and elderflower for our cake flavour with one of the tiers being the most beautiful fruit cake covered with marzipan and icing for my marzipan-loving husband! The cake was absolutely delicious and the iced heart cookies were the cutest little favours I have ever seen - Totally delicious too! Thank you so much for creating such gorgeous treats for our wedding day.

A vintage art deco cake created for a couple who left the final design up to me and didn't know what their cake would look like until they saw it on the day! Fabulous!

What is your most memorable wedding?

A lovely couple who were married in St Stephen's church in Hampstead Heath in London. They came to visit on the day England were playing in the World Cup so we started off in the local pub watching the game! We then discussed their ideas which included dusky pink, metallics, art deco and vintage including a family heirloom to be used as a cake topper. In the end they left the design up to me so it was a surprise on the day. The couple, the venue, the cake and the experience of working with them was all a wonderful time and one to treasure.

Meeting up in person to talk through designs whilst tasting lots of cake!

Describe your typical process with a couple.

Having a chat to see what they want from their wedding day. Then to see what place the cake has in all this so I can create a cake that fits in not only with their style but also their personality.

What is your signature cake?

Oh this is a really hard one now as so many come to mind! it probably though still goes back to my Hummingbird Cake which was created for a cake competition and I won a gold award for it. it encompasses everything that I excel in with cake design from painting, delicate piped work and intricate sugar flowers. The cake itself is tropical and colourful and the colours were mostly greens and blues with a touch of fuchsia pink.

cakesFaqQuestion7

probably my Hummingbird cake which I designed for Cake International, it won gold in the wedding cakes category and was shared by so many on the internet.

What is the most original creation you have baked for a wedding?

Has to be the one I mentioned as my most memorable. The cake had art deco elements, a piped map of the world showing the couples favourite places, a hexagonal base and a fabulous antique cake topper from the grandmother. It was unlike anything else I have ever seen or created and so beautiful.

I think the tropical trio of cakes based on Mauritius with painted birds and tropical flowers

Describe how you got into making wedding cakes.

I have an older sister who always made my birthday cakes for me. When she turned 16 I wanted to make her cake so I went to a book store, picked up a book on cake decorating and worked on a design. That was it, I was hooked! From then on I spent most of my spare time baking and decorating and when I was 16yrs old I sold my first two cakes during Christmas. After that I kept it up and made cakes for family and friends turning it into a business once I had settled down with my family.

cakesFaqQuestion9

From an early age I started cake decorating and made my first wedding cake for a friend aged 20 and carried on as a hobby for years before turning it into a business.

What would be your show stopper in the Great British Bake Off?

A secret garden, I just love flowers and I love wild flower gardens and cottage styles. Something where there are hidden elements and little pieces of detail.
