Hi! I’m Carly and I live in Newry, County Down with my fiancé and 2 young daughters. I’m originally from Carrickfergus where my love of baking began… in my granny’s kitchen.
I have been on a bit of a winding journey to get to where I am now, creating gorgeous cakes for your most treasured events: I studied Architecture and Dance at university and also Interior Design while working as an intern in Stage Management at a Belfast Theatre. I have also worked as a teaching assistant for students with special educational needs and have spent a lot of time in retail.
For me, taste is as equally important as design and so I have curated a seasonal menu to create an all immersive experience on your wedding day.
You have chosen a season for your wedding for the love of the colours, the weather, the textures, the feeling, in memory of a romantic time with your partner or all of the above and so I think it’s really important that you can choose a flavour to match. I’m an all or nothing kind of gal!
The wedding service provided at ‘away with the mixer’ is friendly, professional and centred around you and your partner. From the tailored presentation of design ideas sent straight to your inbox to the delivery and set up of your cake centrepiece with so much love and attention to detail.
In 2015 after the birth of my first daughter is when my cake journey really began. I took it up on myself to create a cake for Erin’s naming day, and while on maternity leave, I baked ALOT. It was my therapeutic, artistic outlet that I never really let go of.
My creative studies have helped me develop my design skills and my experience in retail and being a teaching assistant has taught me so much about communicating and working with people from diverse backgrounds to provide a positive client experience.
I am self-taught and pride myself in the homemade charm of baking from scratch using fresh, high quality ingredients and using organic, fair trade and free range as much as possible.
