I'm Rachel, a married Mum of two with passions for makeup and ballroom dancing. I dance and write a blog, Beauty and The Ballroom. With 15 years of dance experience, I know makeup application well. Despite training in bridal makeup 15 years ago, I didn't pursue it as a career until recently, after self-practice and makeup school certification. I love seeing brides look and feel beautiful on their wedding day, which is what I aim to achieve. I truly believe that what you get from makeup isn't just bold or subtle lips or striking or smokey eyes, it's the way makeup makes you feel that is key. My aim is to help make you feel your best on your special day because after all, it's all about you! I cover in and around Hampshire and am happy to work in London also. Travel charges do apply and more information is available on request.

Rachel is awesome at makeup

Hi, Just leaving a review as i found Rachel on Bridebook. We had a makeup trial and she stuck with me through multiple wedding date changes (thanks to Covid19). Me and one of my bridesmaids don't normally get our makeup done, but she made us feel totally at ease and was really fun to chat too. We also learnt loads about skin care and improving our skin routines!

What about your business are you most proud of?

I am proud of the reaction I get from Clients when they see their finished look and also seeing my work in print knowing that I contributed to the completed image.

Describe your typical process with a couple.

After I receive an initial enquiry, I provide a quotation, booking form and T&C. Once you're happy with everything and send back the completed booking form and paid any requested deposit, your Wedding date is secured in my diary. Your trial usually takes place approximately 6-8 weeks prior to your Wedding day where we will go over your style, colour choices and any ideas you've had. We then try out your look including false lashes if required. I will then also discuss with you timings for on the day so that we are clear on what time each person is required for makeup to be done. On the day I will arrive with plenty of time to set up to ensure a super calm and relaxed start to the day.

What do you love most about your job?

I love not only what makeup can do but how it can make you feel. A small amount of makeup may give you all the confidence in the world yet heavier makeup can make you feel totally different (for example like I do when I apply my dance makeup!). I love seeing the reaction of my Clients when they look in the mirror or perhaps see the difference in their 'Before & After' photos that I have taken. Also seeing my work in print and knowing I have contributed to the final look - I love that too!

What is your No. 1 beauty tip for a bride?

Hydration is key! Your Makeup is only as good as the skin underneath so ensuring that your skin is as good as possible will only help your makeup. Avoiding skincare products with alcohol in that can dry the skin and being sure to remove your makeup thoroughly and cleansing your skin each night will help! Drinking plenty of water also does wonders for the skin from within.
