Wedding traditions in Northern Ireland have been passed down through generations over the years, with many still being followed today. You may have heard one of the most common ones through the rhyme… “Something old, something new, something borrowed, Something blue and a lucky sixpence for my shoe.” ‘Tying the Knot’ is a tradition of tying the wrists of the bride and groom with twine to signify the bond of marriage, which today we use sashes which are placed over the principle’s wrists. And a favourite for many, the traditional Irish toast. Raising a glass to toast health and happiness to the newly wedded couple. “Friends and relatives, so fond and dear, ‘tis our greatest pleasure to have you here. When many years this day has passed, fondest memories will always last. So, we drink a cup of Irish mead and ask God’s blessing in your hour of need.” Just make sure your photographer is on hand to capture all these special moments by letting them know beforehand all the special touches you have added.
