Established over 50 years ago the Wicklow Heather has become an iconic eater renowned for its high standards, rich history, commitment to warm hospitably and excellent cuisine, highlighted by our writers room celebrating great literary tradition and proximity to the historic Glendalough.
Our iconic writers room, featuring first edition copies of Irish writers, can cater up to 90 people. For a more intimate and modern space our Derrybawn room can accommodate up to 35 guests. Both of these rooms are connected to our outside gazebo with covered and uncovered outdoor seating perfect for an arrival reception or celebration till the early hours.

- DDesmond and Camilla20/07/2025Intimate, private wedding with outstanding foodIntimate, private wedding with outstanding foodWe chose the Wicklow Heather for our wedding because we adore Glendalough and were enamoured by this intimate and gorgeously decorated restaurant right in the valley. We had a guestlist of 70 and filled their writers room perfectly. There was just about space for all the guests to move about and mingle and the room opened up nicely for music and dancing later in the night, but the atmosphere that the intimate room provided set the night apart from so many weddings I’ve attended. There was no need for mics for the speeches and we felt so close to all of the guests, it really made those moments more special. The food was the star of the evening. We heard so many positive comments from our guests about the quality and the staff were extremely accommodating with us about the menu every step of the way. They really made us feel like they wanted us to have the best night we could. In fact they really took all the stress out of the process from day one. I can’t imagine how they could have been more helpful and open. Couldn’t recommend the Wicklow Heather more if you are looking for a venue that will feel intimate and private and totally easy. We needed somewhere local and the wicklow Heather were happy to accommodate. My guests still talk about it to this day, one of the things they say all the time is it was the best wedding food they have ever had and I have to agree, the food was some of the best I've ever eaten. The service was also second to none and all the team at the wicklow heather worked so hard to make sure we had the perfect day. I cannot thank all the staff at the wicklow heather enough they made our day absolutely perfect. Honestly wouldn't change a thing about our wedding day. Stayed one night this year it’s become an annual event and this is our second year staying here. Highly recommended for location to walks, forestry and outdoor pursuits. The accommodation is fantastic, comfortable, clean and homely. There’s always a good buzz, atmosphere in the bar and restaurant as there are so many people passing through with their various adventures and interests going on. Our writers room is definitely our venues most unique feature. This room contains the first edition copies of works from ionic Irish writers including Dracula by Bram Stoker and Ulysses by James Joyce. In our writers room we celebrate a wide range of Irish authors, decorated with a classic Irish charm, we aim for this room to bring a cozy and atmospheric charm to our venue.
