We had a small wedding, about 24 people total, which worked out perfectly as everyone was able to stay in the castle the night before and night of the wedding. The castle and grounds are obviously stunning, the photos speak for themselves. We got lucky with good weather and were able to take some amazing photos outside, as well as at Downpatrick's head nearby. Eve and Elaine were like built-in day-of coordinators, and thought of many details I would not have. They had several phone calls with me throughout the planning process, and were able to make everything happen without a hitch. They had a list of recommended (but not required) vendors, all of which were amazing. The castle itself was cozy and romantic, and it was so much fun running around the castle the night before and getting ready with my bridesmaids and family. The food was phenomenal, we heard the chef may be Michelin-trained and it showed, many of my guests said it was the best meal they have ever had in their life. I never even personally met our faux florist, live florist, or string quartet. Thanks to Eve and Elaine, they just showed up, set up, and went on their way. They did a perfect job and it was very stress-free for me. The officiant they recommended, Susan Heffernan, did such a lovely job, and helped us to make the wedding official (a little tricky being a destination wedding for us from the US, but she helped us work it out)! The barn where we had the ceremony looked absolutely magical with the decor from Aisle Love You. And the medieval banquet hall in the basement was so much fun with the band we hired, had its own dedicated bar, and looked super cool with a great amount of space. We had just over 130 guests which was a perfect number for the space and the photo backdrops available are unreal. It was the most extraordinary weekend, full of fun, love, a bit of madness and all the magic of a real castle experience. When we picked the date, my father-in-law (we call him the Crazy Baron) said, let’s do Thursday to Sunday. We thought, sure, why not. And so it turned into a proper four-day celebration. We had a candlelit dinner in the Library Restaurant with close family, a relaxed BBQ in the Castle Courtyard with the Vinyl Van playing tunes, and then the big day itself. I got ready with my girls in the Lord Arran Room with bubbles and calm vibes. The ceremony was in the Old Stables, where the walls have not been touched for over 200 years but there is underfloor heating. Saying our vows in a place that has been in our family since the sixties felt emotional and so special. Our guests came from Jersey, France, Poland, Germany and Ireland, but it felt like one big family party. The Champagne tower, the buzzing Armada Bar, 120 guests, 11 kids, a playroom and a nanny so we could enjoy dinner in the Banqueting Hall and dance all night. We had 26 people staying in the castle with us and it felt more like a house party than a hotel. That was what I loved most. It is a family-run place and you can feel that in every little detail. The team were amazing. Eva, our coordinator, helped us plan everything from Jersey and made it all so easy. As a bride and part of the family who owns Belleek Castle, I can honestly say you are not just booking a venue. So… it has to be our wedding. Not biased at all 😉
We got married at Belleek Castle in October, golden leaves, golden light, golden wedding. Honestly the most extraordinary wedding I’ve ever been to, and I’m so glad it was mine.
From the moment we picked a date, my father-in-law (who we all call the Crazy Baron) said, “Right, let’s make it a Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday wedding.” We looked at each other and went, “Why not!” And honestly, it was a proper party from start to finish.
Thursday night we had a rehearsal dinner in the Library Restaurant for 50 of our closest family. It was intimate, candlelit and so lovely. On Friday, most of our guests arrived for an American-style BBQ in the Castle Courtyard. We had the Vinyl Van playing the best feel-good music, people dancing, chatting, enjoying drinks from the outside bar. The courtyard looked magical with all the fairy lights, and the whole vibe was just relaxed and fun.
Saturday was the big day. I started early in the Lord Arran Room with my girls, hair and makeup with champagne breakfast, calm, special and full of excitement. The ceremony was in the Old Stables, one of the most authentic room in the castle. The walls haven’t been touched for 200 years but yes, there’s underfloor heating. It felt surreal standing there, saying our vows in a place that’s been part of our family since the 60s. Our kids were the flower girls and flower boy and they absolutely stole the show. We loved every second.
Even though our guests were from all over the world; Jersey, France, Poland, Germany, Ireland, it felt like one big family celebration. The Champagne tower sparkled. The Armada Bar was buzzing with drinks, music and stories. We had 120 guests, 11 kids, a nanny on-site and a playroom set up, so we actually got to enjoy our dinner in the Banqueting Hall and dance into the night.
Ten castle bedrooms meant we could have 26 of our guests staying on-site, which made it feel like a big house party in a real castle. That was important to me, I didn’t want a hotel vibe, I wanted something that felt like home. The rest of our friends and family stayed in nearby hotels and Airbnbs, and the transport was all organised so smoothly. Everything ran like a dream.
And I have to say, the staff were unreal. You could feel the love in what they do. It’s a family-run place — our family — and the atmosphere reflects that. Eva, our coordinator, was incredible. We planned everything from Jersey and she handled every detail, every email, every idea. She made it feel easy and exciting.
Oh and the afterparty? A fantastic live band, Polish feast at midnight (because I had to), and let’s just say there was no shortage of ice-cold vodka. Please don’t ask what time it finished. All I’ll say is the hearty Irish breakfast the next morning was a lifesaver.
In between all the fun we had castle and museum tours, walks in Belleek Woods, and even squeezed in a visit to Patrick’s Head. So we weren’t just drinking… we like to think.
It was a real castle experience, full of heart and history. Authentic, beautiful, joyful and very us. We made memories we’ll never forget, and neither will our guests.
