Tucked away in the heart of the Oxfordshire countryside, The Great Barn is a breathtaking 18th-century barn wedding venue full of rustic charm and timeless character. Originally built in 1770 as part of the Cartwright Estate in Aynho, the barn features original Cotswold stone walls, exposed oak beams, and high vaulted ceilings that create a striking yet romantic setting. Bathed in natural daylight by day and glowing with ambient lighting by night, The Great Barn transforms seamlessly from a serene ceremony space to a lively celebration venue. With exclusive use of the entire venue and stunning gardens and grounds, it offers couples a relaxed yet spectacular backdrop for their big day.
Facilities and Capacity
The Great Barn can accommodate up to 120 guests for your ceremony and wedding breakfast, and welcome up to 175 evening guests for a full night of celebration. The venue offers multiple flexible spaces, including the Croughton Barn for dining and dancing, and The Aynho Barn for a private, cosy drinks experience overlooking the festivities below. A tranquil private dressing room is available for getting ready, and outdoor spaces such as the patio and lawn provide the perfect backdrop for mingling, drinks, or sunset photos. The barn is fitted with a fully licensed bar and can be decorated to match your individual style.
Food & Drinks
All food at The Great Barn is prepared in-house by the venue’s experienced chef team, offering couples a choice of menus tailored to different tastes and seasons. From relaxed dining to elegant multi-course meals, the kitchen focuses on fresh, beautifully presented dishes that complement the barn’s warm, welcoming atmosphere. The selection of drinks you offer your guests is entirely your choice. We can run a pay bar throughout the day and evening, alternatively, you can decide to pay for all your guests drinks. More often we will put together a ‘drinks package’ of reception drinks after the ceremony, wine on the table and a toast from our extensive cellar.

From styled table décor, neon signage, and LED strip lighting, to outdoor garden games, ceremony backdrops, and our popular Selfie Photo Station. Couples can also choose from our in-house DJ and lighting packages designed to elevate the evening atmosphere.

The venue is absolutely stunning and our guests couldn’t compliment it more. We had the pleasure of having Alice as our coordinator, and nothing was too much trouble. She executed our vision perfectly, respected our belongings, nothing was broken and she was so attentive to our family and friends, everyone knew what they were doing the whole day. The staff working on the day were equally amazing, very attentive and kind, particularly at the end of the evening with the dribs and drabs of our guests who were slightly over time. It couldn’t have been more perfect, 100% must choose venue. !We had our wedding on Saturday and the day couldn’t have been more perfect. The venue is absolutely stunning and our guests couldn’t compliment it more. We had the pleasure of having Alice as our coordinator, and nothing was too much trouble. From the moment of viewing the great barn we knew it was exactly the place we wanted to get married. Alice our wedding manager was phenomenal, she made us feel at ease with the run up to the wedding and the professionalism Alice showed threw-out the whole process was next to none. Our special day was perfect thanks to all the staff, the food was amazing. Myself and my husband got married at the great barn in November 2025. The staff were all so lovely and made the day less stressful for us as they sorted everything out. The food was amazing, empty plates on all tables. The Great Barn was the first venue we viewed and we knew immediately it was the one, the place has an amazing feel with just the right amount of tasteful decor to make the rooms feel full without too much extra but also enough to be able to personalise the space. We particularly loved the main room with the bar as it kept everyone together in the evening and ensured the dance floor remained full! We had the best day at The Great Barn for our wedding March 2026! Alice was our Wedding Manager and MC on the day and she did a brilliant job throughout. She was so lovely, warm and enthusiastic, responding to all of our questions and made sure everything went perfectly on the day. We cannot recommend this venue enough, all of our friends and family couldn't get over how beautiful it was and how good the food was. I have coeliac disease and the team went above and beyond to make sure I was catered for and didn't need to worry about a thing on the day. Thank you so much! What’s your favourite midnight treat?
Definitely a slice of our famous pizza from the Pizza Shed. They are delicious!!
What is your venue's most unique feature?
As barns go, we are unusually large and spacious and the two interconnecting barns allow one part of the party to dance the night away and the others still be able to hold a conversation without feeling that they are separate groups. Plus a third barn solely used for the civil ceremony, The Cart Shed.

Our staff - guests time and time again comment on how attentive, polite, courteous and flexible they are and they go the extra mile to make your day really special.
