One of my favourite weddings to shoot so far was a destination wedding in Cape Town. Not only was the scenery was absolutely stunning, the Bride & Groom were so full of life and laughter they were an absolute pleasure to shoot.
Natural, relaxed, fun, elegant, beautiful.
I thoroughly enjoy being the photographer on the day itself, but I feel the most pride when I've finished editing.
I love sitting back, taking one last look through the album filled with images I'm really happy with, and waiting with excitement to hear what the client thinks once I've sent them. That feeling of pride is magnified tenfold once you get the feedback from the happy couple, having just viewed their photos for the first time!
Prepare and organise as much as you feel necessary beforehand, but on the day itself let any worries go and just enjoy it!
One couple had very multicultural backgrounds, with various countries that were of great importance to them.
As a testament to them, they both wore items of clothing that had connections to those places of meaning around the world.
We'll have a consultation chat before the wedding to make sure you're happy with the service I'll provide.
We'll also discuss your preferences regarding the style of photography and any other requirements you have.
I'll then visit the venue before the wedding to ensure I'm fully prepared to take the best shots possible on the day.
Everyone is different, and each couple I've photographed have had their own ideas of what is most important to them in terms of photos, which I always want to accommodate. However, there are the obvious shots that simply can't be missed - the rings being put on the fingers, the 'first' kiss at the end of the ceremony etc. My favourite photos, however, are usually the ones that capture a genuine, happy, and intimate moment between the couple when the photo is not staged.
Just as everyone is unique: so is every wedding. I'm always really happy to take special requests for any out of the ordinary shots!
One of the many I can think of was a photo of an Indian shrine to the members of family that had sadly passed away. As is customary for Indian weddings and out respect to those family members, it was to become the first photo in the physical wedding album.
With regards to photos, don't feel downhearted! There are plenty of great photo opportunities that are only possible when it's raining.
I always bring a nice big luxury umbrella with me for the couple shots just in case.
I have loved photography from a very young age, and remember playing around with my parent's old camera before being given my first digital camera as a present in my teens. From then onwards, it developed from a hobby to a career, with my passion for it sustaining throughout!
