What is your most memorable wedding?
A nigerian wedding with 200 people, a famous groom, with a full-on ceremony and colourful African Dress held at Northbrook Park in Hampshire is probably near the top of the list, but photographing [The Footballer] Dickson Etuhu's small intimate wedding of just 30 people was just as memorable and equally powerful. My Favourite wedding was in a downpour one Summer with Lara and Harry flying in from New York in a Tipi in the middle of nowhere, with loads of music, loads of ceremony, and loads of everything. Really amazingly full wedding, and then off they went...
Describe your style in 5 adjectives.
Relaxed, pop, natural, strong, lush.
What about your business are you most proud of?
We deliver consistently high-end products that mark a pivotal time in people's lives - it's impossible not to be proud in my job!
What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?
Don't get carried away with what you think you have to have. Be brave, break from the norm if that's what you want to do, but don't forget why and how you got to the day. Everything else might just be noise.
What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?
I love a garden summer wedding, and there are a million things you can do with a marquee. It's always great when it's seasonal touches and rustic festival charm. Want to sit on hay bales? Then get some hay bales! People like Blank Canvas Weddings know how to do this stuff, right down to finding he perfect venue for you, so I'd definitely recommend hiring a wedding planner.
Describe your typical process with a couple.
Simplified, friendly, and accommodating. Cheeky. My house is your house. We start at getting to know each other and work it out from there. People want to take advantage of our low pricing, and securing the date with a deposit is a must, but once the day is booked it's really all about making it up as we go along, and the price becomes the least important part of our relationship. We have a pre wedding photo session and we get talking. You're people - I'm a person! It's relaxed and chilled out because that's the nicer way to do things.
What is the No. 1 photo that you think every couple should take?
The one that isn't trying too hard. Act like someone else and the moment is gone, and looks fake. Act like yourself, and let me capture that.
What is the most original photo you’ve been asked to take at a wedding?
I'm not sure what this means!
What do you recommend for a rainy day wedding?
Umbrellas and mulled wine. And a change of shoes.
Describe how you got into photography.
How long have you got? I've been doing it all my adult life, with the help and encouragement of mentors, artists, friends, and tutors. I've worked as a landscape artist, a painter, and a musician, and a chef, amongst other things. Photography has always been about people and fashion and weddings, and real life. I was here before instagram, put it that way!
