Tradition has it that a shepherd from Reinosa decided to brighten the last days of his favorite horse, now very old, by letting it loose in the area's pastures. What would be his surprise when he saw the horse, some time later, endowed with renewed vigor. Searching for the possible cause of such a surprising recovery, he saw it only in the spring from which he drank. The spring became popular among the locals already at the beginning of the 19th century, giving rise to a rudimentary "Water House": from 1878 the water began to be marketed. But it would be at the beginning of the 20th century - with the help of the new owner, Juan Correa, who acquired the land impressed by the sudden recovery of his wife - when water and lodging gained definitive momentum: the original inn soon became the "Hotel de la Fuente", finally taking the form of the current "Gran Hotel Balneario", inaugurated in 1922.
